If you mean the bookcase: If you use the torch on it you get a ton of stress. If you don't use anything you have 1/4 chance of nothing, 1/4 chance of scouting, 1/4 chance of a large stress hit and 1/4 chance of a 2/3 positive quitk, 1/3 negative quirk.
If you mean just books: torch you go mad, and everything else is bad except a 1/4 chance of a positive quirk.
Oh, and the scouting from curios was bugged last time I checked, so they're both best avioided I feel.
EDIT: Is there an up-to-date list of all the interactions? The wiki I'm looking at seems to not have been updated in while.
Scrolls on the other hand...
More like that ignorance can be bliss, which is why stifling curiosity from your characters is almost mandatory.
