Name of the Leper's sword
Hi, does anybody know the official name of Leper's sword? I have been looking for it quite some time, but didnt find anything.

Reason - I want to buy sowrd like that (really big and broken in half) but as you can guess, it's not easy to find one when you don't know the name :D

Buy a sword and break it in half. What kind of special product are you expecting to buy?

The blade on that sword is wider than most swords you'll find IRL. This is because a wide blade is going to be heavier and harder to swing. Two-handed swords like this one (look a the hilt) are where you're going to find wider, longer blades. Some b.a.stard swords (or, hand-and-a-half swords) have wider than usual blades.

You know what is funny? The b.asterd sword and the long sword is the same sword, its just 2 names for the same thing. Its something that really bugs me in games like Dark Souls 2 where there is 1 long sword and 1 b.astered sword and they are different in design and length.
I'm pretty sure it actually is an executioner-type sword. Why? Executioner swords don't have tips, they're actually almost entirely rectangular in the blade form, some have only one edge, some have two, they are NOT thrusting weapons though, or even combat weapons.

A basty sword is technically a sort of longsword, yes, but this does not mean all longswords are that type of swords, it's like saying that because a stiletto dagger is a dagger that means all daggers are stiletto daggers.

Pretty much, just shorten it down, make it a lot wider and you have the Leper's sword. Heavy but incredibly powerful when it hits.

Actually in relation to dark souls the longsword is just wrong. If wikipedia is anything to go on a longsword is always a 2 handed sword with a double-edged blade. It can be compared to the Zweihänder or Claymore. In Dark Souls the longsword is a 1 handed sword much to short to be a longsword.

The word name b.astered sword showed up in the late medieval times and pretty much implies its a longsword. So I guess b.astered sword is pretty much just slang for longsword and not a different class of weapon.
In case of confusion about sword names refer to:

It's strangely sized. A long hilt, an one and a half blade like mixed with a broader sword. I'm no sword erudite tho.

Swords like that are not based in reality. The Leper's sword would be too heavy for most people to even carry to the battlefield, never mind being used to hit anything.

If you want one of those, you need to get in contact with someone like this:

He makes giant swords for a living and he's good at it.

Yeah, video games often picture people using swords so big that they would surely be too heavy to effectively use in actual combat. (remember Cloud's sword? Something that size made of actual solid steel would be too heavy to even lift.)

It's especially confusing since a large portion of surviving swords that are actually hundreds of years old were like that as well, as they were merely ceremonial display weapons (which would often be much more likely to be preserved than one that was actually used for fighting).

Are there sword, historically, with long hilt but not so long blades? L's Sword hilt it's almost 1/2 of the "complete" blade, I guess.

I think the main factor with whether there's a longer hilt is whether it is intended to be used with 2 hands, and that is usually only the case with heavier blades, and a short blade wouldn't be heavy.

As for the leper, the sword seems to have a larger hilt than would be practically necessary. On the upgrade screen it says it's an executioner's sword, which wouldn't need to be really long, but would be exceptionally wide and heavy to improve the chance of fully severing the head. You wouldn't see such a design in a sword designed for actual combat. That said, in the graphics it looks like his sword has part of it broken off, and the final upgrade is called "the broken blade".
