Streaming issue (OBS, low FPS in game)
Hey guys,

I've got some issues streaming Darkest Dungeon. Sometimes, it'll work fine and other times (95% of the time), the FPS just drops to 10-15 FPS as soon as I grab it as a source with Game Capture. It goes away on its own at times, but it's really frustrating to deal with and I'm not sure what to do to fix it.

I've done a bit of testing (ticking game capture checkbox on/off) and it's literally the moment it gets captured, the lag starts in the game. Funny thing? If I alt-tab to any other window, the game goes back to 60 FPS and runs fine. I've literally just alt-tabbed to a tiny window a few times just to get through an enemy turn. So it's only happening when the Darkest Dungeon window has focus.

I've tried using the Window Capture as an alternative, but can't for the life of me figure out what's wrong with that either. Window Capture grabs a frozen image of OBS when it targets Darkest Dungeon. Go figure.

Only remaining option seems to be using Monitor Capture and I'd really hate to have to resort to it. Does anyone have any experience or ideas as to what could be wrong and how to fix it?

Thanks :)

Same problem, did you figure it out already?
Maybe go on www.twitch.tv and do a game search for "Darkest Dungeon" then look for someone thats' streaming the game. A lot of Twitch streamers use OBS.

It's not Darkest Dungeon that's causing the problem, I don't even play that game. I even reset all my obs settings but it didn't work. I looked around on the internet and found some people who fixed this issue by deleting some "gamehook" file from razer synapse. It worked for me, but only for a few minutes.
Never ended up figuring it out and ran into a number of people with the same issue. Emailed the devs too, who said they couldn't help. Eventually just stuck to using Monitor Capture :|
what if you just need a buttload more RAM - not graphics card RAM, mind, but just raw RAM?

If you're saying a game of this size requires more than 8 GB of RAM (even with streaming and all the random crap in the background), you're pretty much heavily insulting the devs :P

Also, the game is not "lagging". Traditional lag will make the framerate go up and down. Framerate here literally stays on a single number, varying maybe 1 up/down.
Indeed, this is no pc performance issue. I have an I7 6700, 16 gigs of RAM and 8 gigs of VRAM. When I'm recording I play at 26 FPS but when I'm not I play at ~200. This is definitly a bug in OBS. Also, changing games settings have no influence on FPS whatsoever. I stopped using OBS and am now recording with plays.tv
