So quick to judge.
EDIT: clarification
OG Darkest Dungeon has been going strong for 7 years. There are usually thousands playing it daily, and if you enjoy the vanilla experience, you can also avail of the DLC and/or years worth of mods for additional replay value.
In short, yes, there's no reason not to try DD1 here in 2023.
As for Darkest Dungeon 2, it has incorporated (and improved) numerous systems and concepts from the OG, but it is also making a conscious effort to be a different experience to the first game. If you've not played either one, then there's no harm playing the first while waiting for the second, or simply diving into the sequel immediately.
In short, they can each be played as a standalone experience.
DD1 takes hours and hours to get going and if you like Stygian mode, it can wipe all that in an instant, it can be pretty daunting. So DD2 is a better option for shorter in-between runs. Also if RnJ hate you, you might have a bad time. But I'm a perfectionist and also a sarchist. (((AND ALSO DON'T FORGET THERE'S AN AI IT'S NOT RANDOM AT ALL HAHAHA | CX XD |)))
Though In my opinion DD2 needs some expansion on other mechanics, especially good ones from DD1 to contend in my mind (highly subjective area). The bonds thing already happens between my characters because I pay attention to their persist-stories. and I feel like the bond system is not an adequete replacer and rather, should have been an expansion on the ideas the stress system put in play. I have some other greatly horrific ideas I refuse to give away because Red Hook doesn't pay me. So.
I also haven't played DD2 though I can remark that it looks cool, I want to play it, but it still doesn't suit my preference that much, so I will stay patient.
I would say DD1 is a more solid choice, there's a lot of content, and the modding community still loves it. And also, people seem to forget there's a PvP mode. It's fun~
I agree. But please. Expand. Your vacuousness~ =;)
