They can do everything reasonably well; damage any position, Stun, heal themselves, group stress heal, even Guard (though with no PROT bonus)... so it'd be possible.
They don't do all that much damage, and the Bleed won't work in the Ruins or Cove. They could potentially do a lot of damage for 6 rounds each (which would be good for the Shambler), but you'd have to conserve your dog biscuits. These will take up 4 inventory slots because they don't stack above 2 for some reason.
They can't heal each other, so if one is on Death's Door, you might have to wait until after a DoT tic before he can heal himself. Same problem if he's Stunned, though in that case I suppose you can Guard him for a round (assuming you gave that skill to some of them) and hope the enemy doesn't use AoEs.
the guard would fail
one guy thats guarding another guy cant be guarded by another guy, it would just say GUARD FAILED and skip your turn for trying to be clever.
but yes, houndmaster team thats constantly guarding seems viable, i learned how much of a livesaver a houndmaster can be when i used him while fighting the prophet, those dodges man
2.
You could just stuff your dogs with them on the first battle
The first idea behind the concept was that every character could self-heal and stress-heal.
The second was that if you transform both Abominations and pop dog biscuits on both Houndmasters, you could achieve huge bursts of damage.
Turned out to be quite an effective boss-killer team.
Yes, this was one of my attemps to go without Vestals.
Sadly, there aren't too many classes that can do without a healer. Abomination, Houndmaster, Leper... and Lepers won't run with Abominations.
