CC packs are slightly harder than regular packs. It's noticeable but hardly catastrophic. You probably got some good RNG on the croc - it is one of the hardest bosses in the game.
One time I beat it without a scratch using zero-trinket vestal stuns.
There are many reasons why people recommend stalling -- and they have nothing to do with how easy the CC-introduction is.
I recommend stalling so you can more easily jump into the second quest when you have near level 3 to mostly level 3 hero's. doing it early can lead to getting several hero's infected with little blood. which is bad and can lead to hero's dying.
CC 1 is just an intro, and a heavily watered down one at that. CC 2 - 4 are EPIC Length, boyo: the intro just doesn't compare.
