Stuck in a fight

I am stuck in a fight. I can leave the game and re-open it but it just opens into the same fight. I cant attack or escape and I dont know what to do. Dont want to start over. Please help

Sometimes fights go badly, but you never actually have to start over. It's a beginner's trap. Just take the loss. You can't actually lose the game on two of the three modes.

I didn't realize it was not expression. If he literally can't fight, rather than just going to lose, I don't know what to say.

Not sure how that can be confused as mere expression, but I would recommend starting with an Integrity Check. It's the first step you should take whenever you feel something critical is going on. If it's the result of corrupted or missing files, then the integrity check will restore it.

If that doesn't work -- and you happen to have mods installed -- then it's time to disable them all and reload. If that cures it, then you know one of the mods is causing the problem.

It's a relatively simple game. I've never even heard of this issue where you can't even push a button in battle. I am sorry.

The vast majority of critical issues (outside of pure tech-problems) almost always stem from mod-conflicts or corrupted/removed/edited files -- so the first step is an immediate Integrity Check via Steam.

The one and only issue I've had with DD since 2016 -- as someone who has avoided mods (except for color palettes and faster combat text) -- was due to an easily fixed VSYNC problem, so it wasn't even the game's fault.

But that's just me. Computers and tech can be funky when it wants to be, but this seems more like a file problem than a critical tech issue.

If this is an issue simply caused by having a character HAVING NO VALID ATTACKS AVAILABLE (no moves available due to wrong position) and they're the only one left in the party... all the way to the right of your normal moveset is a "x" button which lets you skip a turn.... it's not pretty; you'll have to see what's left of your squad die but at least when it's over you get put back to town.

If it's an issue that you can't click any buttons at all then I dunno what to say; never encountered that bug

If the game is modded, probably an issue somewhere.
