Macbook air 2020 - terrible performance
Running DD and all DLC on a macbook air 2020 (I5/16GB ram) and it is absolutely terrible. There are constant slowdowns and lagging. It is all thru the game. Opening windows in the hamlet. Moving in the halls during a mission and, of course, in combat.

I have disabled blur and camera zoom in graphics settings, but it doesn't really help much.

I know that others are also facing this issue, but I have not seen a solution - other than installing windows, which isn't really a solution.

Has anyone been able to solve this?

The Air notoriously underperforms. I don't know if there's a solution to this, but it isn't just that and can probably be fixed somehow. It's not Big Sur, is it? I don't think they've got all the wrinkles out of it.

The hardware should be able to handle it easily though. I have a MBP from 2011 or so that does it fine other than a bit of stuttering during cutscenes.

I conducted a small experiment. I made a dual install (W10/Catalina). The cpu is a i5-8600K with onboard intel 630 graphics and 32 gb memory.

The results were on par with the macbook air:(

Windows : Smooth as can be.
OSX: Lags and slowdowns en masse

It is not an issue I have encountered with other games on osx. I suspect that either the mac port of DD has a massive potential for optimizations/fixes or the Steam DRM is seriously messing things up.

The red hook team seems to be busy with DD2, which in all likelyhood means that getting the issue fixed is unlikely:(

Probably Steam. I've run TF2 on the exact same machine, and the performance on Windows was vastly better than the performance on Mac OS.

Inversely, I've never had performance issues with a 2010 iMac for DD.

I've got the same problem, but if I run the game from a shortcut in launchpad and not by opening it from steam, everything is perfectly ok

That sounds about right, I've had exactly the same issue with other games, resolved in the same way.
