GOG version vs Steam version in terms of Bugs.
To make this short,

I got the steam version to get the skins and it crashes without fail on the first ruins mission and has white window graphics glitches on the old road with and without mods and a bunch of workarounds tried.

The GOG version with limited skin selection from Nexus and manual install works like a charm with no crashes or glitches. WTF steam?

In conclusion, the steam version is unplayable and the problem is on their end. Anyone have any ideas on how to make the steam version playable?

Just don't come at me with "update your graphics drivers or some such, like I said, GOG version runs fine, just doesn't have the same mod database or achievements. The masterfix thread didn't help though I didn't try all of it, too long a list for stuff that should work by itself.

A few moments later...
(Update) I'm not going to reply to pointless trash comments, only thread related ideas.

Sounds like an issue on your end considering it seems most people are able to play the Steam version without any hiccups.

Are you saying you haven't updated your drivers?
What's your GPU and drivers version?

Steam native version runs fine for me on linux.

Also post some info about your system, cpu ram OS etc

somehow i read in your text that you get the steam version becasue you want to use MODS that don run with the gog version.
so i have a fundamental total mad idea:
you implemented mods asap after getting the steam version? if yes have you tryed if you "bugs" (read: self induced problems by using mods) also happen when you started the steam version as a fresh vanilla install (read: unmodded at all)

No, I didn't get the steam version to install mods that don't run with the gog version.
The GOG version has a more limited list of skins available because it doesn't have a workshop function like steam does and GOG versions skins often have to be installed manually. I don't use mods that alter game functionality, only skins.

I tried a fresh reinstall of DD without any skins or mods installed with the steam version. It crashes with skins and without them.

The GOG version runs perfectly with skins from Nexus and without them. I have written this in my first post.

I started this thread to come up with solutions to the problem, which includes reading what I wrote and not posting smartass remarks in horrible English that don't suggest any solutions.

But even then, no, I got to the hamlet and then installed the skins if you think that changes anything.

Skins are mods. They modify the game...you got the Steam version for skin mods.
Angry Trash Sep 27, 2021 @ 11:54am
Is it possible that your antivirus has an exclusion set for whatever folder contains the GOG game but not the steam game? That's happened to me before, especially on fresh reinstalls.

"that don run with the gog version." "that don't run with the gog version." You've missed the qualifying statement twice from two different people. There's another qualifying statement where he makes a distinction in his use of words for skins vs mods that impact game function (ie not cosmetic). He got the steam version to streamline the distinct use of cosmetic skin mods and not for mods that impact gameplay or don't run on GOG as he explains he uses skin mods on GOG but has to manually install them.

Champ, come on, it was the second half of my post I don't see how it's so hard for you to parse that.

Him : "Hey, I just got new sneakers because I like to run but doing it barefoot shreds my feet"
You : "Wow this guy got shoes because he can't run."
Me : "Actually no, he already was running but he got shoes specifically because they make it better and easier for him to run."
You : "Wow this guy got shoes because he can't run."

You're missing half the pieces in the puzzle.

That dude is a troll, thanks for the idea, I'l look at the antivirus.

Compare the build numbers between the two versions (top left corner in the main menu). AFAIK, there shouldn't be any difference. The Steam version even comes with a Steam-free copy located at "Steam\steamapps\common\DarkestDungeon\_windowsnosteam". Try that one, see if it works.

It'd be weird for the problem to be on their end if no one has ever really reported such an occurrence lol
