He's nice for reliable stunning and mid aoe blight... his transformation does increasing aoe front melee, but you'd want to watch who you pair him with in that sitution.
Generally keep him in position 1 or 2; in position 1 he's basically a very durable unit until you need to unleash him for dps.
Which is not a thing you have to do.
Human-only Abomination is 100% viable.
I typically use Abomination in the second or third slots, sometimes first. I typically don't transform him until I reach really difficult enemies (which I haven't done often because I don't bring him on high level missions because of religious restrictions). But when he is transformed I try to use Rake as much as possible and sometimes Rage.
Hey there's the Occultist and Arbalest, slam them together in a party with the Abomination and another hero and bam. Good set for what I've seen so far...
He might be even better in Crimson Court, where there is a 3rd healer, but I haven't played the DLC yet.
