I have two theories:
a) They're just for comic relief.
b) They're common placement strategies that the game recognizes and so it's notifying you of it? I really don't know honestly.
Nothing special, purely cosmetic.
They should do a little collab with the community before the new dlc.
Essentially the Antiquarian forces the non Man-at-Arms front ranker to protect her, the Man-at-Arms protects the fourth party member, you have almost complete control over who gets hit, condition removal for the plague doctor or healing from the arbalest (or marking with the bounty hunter and shooting with her). It might have included a Leper in the front rank (for the Antiquarian to be guarded by).
It's been a while since I last ran that party but it was surprisingly enjoyable.
