The Torch is Key
So I realized last night what I have been doing wrong all game, not keeping my light high enough.

Even in the small dungeons my parties were completing them with 100+ stress each. The tutorial that says bring 4 torches kind of does you a disservice in you need at least twice that many for smaller dungeons.

I took in around 15 torches for a medium dungeon last night for the Necromancer fight, and I completed it burning my last torch in the hallway going to the final boss room.

I imagine this plays out the same way all game, even at the higher levels? Do you all keep you light around 100?

Loving this game so far!

What do you normally let the light run down to before stoking the flame? I didn't even end up camping on that Necromancer run until like 2 rooms before the boss fight haha

I bring 12 on mediums and I don't use my campfire till the mission is complete, I use if for stress relief so I don't have to pay anything when I get back to the Hamlet.

Good tip!

I always buy 16 torches for medium runs. Since I started this game forever ago, I always keep light at max level.

In the DLC there's a new District called Cartographer's Camp which makes torchlight even more beneficial, one of which is a bonus to +Loot.

Let the light die down to 75 before striking a new torch. I also do the same as BoredGuy and use Campfire(s) at the end of levels for stress relief.

There is 2 diametrically opposite approaches. You either go with full radiant light, or no light at all. Later is harder, but somewhat more interesting and profitable.
usually i take 1 stack for short, might threw some extra, just in case, 2 stacks for medium and for long 2.5 or 3, depends on quest type.

Be sure to dowse them all before dealing the final blow during a boss fight. Personally I can't stand not having a high as hell light rate coupled with a high scouting chance when searching around with my antiquarian, those secret rooms seem to always hold amazing rewards if the antiquarian pops it open with a key.

So basically you are shooting yourself in the foot running at 50%. Perfect, that's what I was doing for my first 6 or 7 dungeons :thehook"

Speaking of scouting, in case you guys don't know, if you don't scout when entering a room, you can make the game give you another small chance to scout if you manually walk to the very end of the room before choosing another room to walk towards.

I found my first secret room last night, it had 3 of those gems that were like 2500 each!

What do you mean dowse the light before the final blow, will that affect the reward? Just click it during the battle?

I go basically Torchless: I never buy a Torch unless it is free.
Better loot and more interesting. Makes using the Firewood for light an interesting dilemma.

How do you manage all that extra stress, because it seems like at low stress it accumulates crazy fast.

Mainly very opportunistic Stress Healing with copious amounts of Stun.

Yup yup, you shift click on the torch to dowse it it, it'll drop 25 points of radience per click.

What does that buy you doing that right before killing the boss?
