Afflictions shouldn't be feared (?)
Hello,

I wonder if someone here doesn't lower stress level and just let them hit 100, and just take care to not lose any heroes to heart attacks.

I ask it because with the new hero and his unique affliction, I was wondering, should we spend rounds to lower stress level, or should we just let it go? Affliction in the game is a system to emulate the horrors of being in a dungeon full of monsters and corpses. But when I play I try so hard to keep the stress levels down, that I almost never got to the point of the resolve test. I think I'll just let my heroes get afflicted, and lower stress just so they don't get heart attacks. It would be more fun to play with a party with a masochist, a paranoid, a selfish and a irrational. Maybe this would break my team to the point that I would not be able to finish the quest, but to really feel like they are lost and in madness would be nice. Am I a masochist to think like this? Should I get help? =)

Uhm... If the flagellant gets a good resolve everything is fine and he starts spamming random heals and stuff at the party.
But if the resolve is bad that's another thing. Whipping the other guys in your party for 10 damage and giving everyone bleed is just one of his glorious quirks.
So you can roll the dice but when the outcome ist bad it is BAD!!

Having multiple afflictions in your party is very dangerous. Because your heroes can cause stress to each other, and those stresses can in turn trigger stress procs on other afflicted heroes, it's possible to get stress cascades that escalate very quickly to heart attacks, and can be very difficult to avoid since you can't retreat from battle and will have many action failures.

Flagallent notwithstanding, afflictions are generally something to be avoided at all costs. One or two in a party is probably tolerable. More than two and I'm probably going to be bailing.

Play the game the way you enjoy it, you wanna read everything about everything even stuff you won't know or spoilers? your choice.
You wanna play with a full afflicted party or do a Darkest Dungeon with only an apotecarian? Sure if you can and if you WANT to do it, feel free to do so xD

It is interesting that afflictions are penalties because of too high stress, and as penalties they should be avoid, but they have some great unique dialogues that if I avoid I would never know. I guess I will try to not get four afflictions at once, but maybe one or two just for the fun of it =)

Whatever floats your boat, mate.
Just whatch out for backstabs and people that refuse to be healed. ;)
If you want an interesting experience by all means let them become afflicted. One thing I like about afflictions is that they offer new dialogue based on which hero is affected and which affliction they have (A hopeless Crusader for example will lament his decision to leave his family behind). Irrational heroes in particular tend to say amusing things. Just keep in mind that it will make the game considerably harder.

Some are worse than others. Masochistic is probably the worst, because not only will the hero hurt himself, but he'll also refuse heals, so he can literally commit suicide on you. Paranoid I believe also refuses heals or buffs but won't hurt themselves.
I'd argue Abusive is one of the worst ones because abusive heroes will constantly trash talk the other party members which quickly builds up stress.

That doesn't upset the Flagellant, it just keeps turning him on.

I hope he and the abusive hero settled on a safe word. Wouldn't want things to go out of control.

The Flagellant's secret? He's always Angry.

*Bloodlusted Rapturous Flagellant proceeds to windmill his arms furiously in anyone that gets in his way*

That's what I like too! You can have great insights about the heroes personalities, fears and memories.
