What's the point of the "Candle of Life" trinket?
It gives you +50% heal skills. But her heal is only 1 HP. What's the point of this trinket? Thanks!

You can upgrade her healing skill at the Guild to make it *slightly* more potent. Level 2 is 1-2, level 3 is 2-2... so while +50% healing is never going to be very much, it can at least do something (also, I think it applies after crit healing... but I'm not sure).

It'll probably never have a huge impact, but hey, at least it doesn't have a downside, so you can equip it if you don't have anything better.

Later levels have a slightly higher heal rate so it does benefit SLIGHTLY. Still only useful for grindy healing or deaths door recovery.

I would have understood if it was a common trinket, but not legendary.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's actually good. But the Antiquarian is specifically meant to be terrible in combat to balance out the reward you get from bringing her, so they can't have trinkets making her an actually powerful character during battle.

Besides, it's far from the only legendary trinket with little use.

It's the best trinket for the antiquarian. She'll never do as a primary healer, but as others have said, she can be critical to keeping nearly dead heroes up. Her principle combat skills in my groups are the dot damage and 'forcing' the tank to guard her, giving said tank a boost to prot and dodge.

It's the only antiquarian trinket that's actually worth using. She's straight up awful in combat so you're never gonna want to put a defensive trinket on her, and she should always be protected because Protect Me is hands down her best skill so defensive trinkets are also worthless. Realistically, you'll only ever be using her heal party members and buff their dodge so there's no reason to give her anything that isn't specifically to buff her speed and healing ability.

I find her long reach, not terible damage, and very high ACC quite useful for killing injured enemies. She's suboptimal for combat, lacks more then basic offensive moves, and never crits - but she's not nothing.

She is, factually, the worst character in the game in combat by design. You cannot tell me otherwise cause you're lying if you do. Her damage IS terrible compared to all other characters, and her reach is the only thing she has going for her. Using Nervous Stab is basically equivelent to passing turn unless the enemy you're attacking is garunteed or nearly garunteed to die from it.

He never said she wasn't the worst, just that she isn't nothing. In my personal experience, Nervous Stab has guaranteed many enemy kills; either when she attacks or when a party member follows up on her strike.

Exactly, you can use nervous stab to clean up enemies that other heroes have wounded. She's useful enough in combat for what she does out of it. The antiquarian is for a very specific purpose of doing runs that are fairly easy (e.g. leveling your backup crew - say a bunch of level 2's in a medium apprentice dungeon) and you want to make them pay. A couple stacks of antiquarian treasure sure does allow you to upgrade a lot of heroes...

Yeah don't take an antiquarian on a boss run.

I take em on low lvl boss runs. bu then I've been playing the game for 700 hrs or so. and the low level stuff is a breeze at this point, barring some horrific combination of bad rolls <which do happen. frequently.> :-)

knight of solamnia Nov 14, 2016 @ 10:21pm
it's the only gear worth slapping on the antiquinarian(besides fasting items).
The first time i used the Antiquinarian was a boss run for prophet, few people died.
