Ah, so it is just normal XP that helps you level? I thought it was a separate type of XP.

What it says, its XP. You need XP to lvl up. The higher your Resolve lvl, the higher certain resistances (bleed, blight, trap resistence etc but nothing like armor or more health) and it allows your chars to endure more difficult missions.

And as matter of fact it prevents them participate in lower level missions as well.

I think they went with the term 'resolve' to reflect the fact that leveling up only increases your resistances and unlocks the ability to purchase higher level skills, weapons, and armor, but doesn't in of itself make your hero stronger per se. This is in contrast to more traditional RPGs where a hero's base aptitude in terms of strength, 'magical power', health, etc all steadily improve with level.
