Rage Quit simulator?
Although I like the atmosphere and presentation of it, I'm honestly conflicted about getting this game because of some of the negative things I've heard about it - mostly the overpowered enemies and unforgiving RNG that can make you lose hours of grinding in an instant. I know they introduced a "radiant" mode that makes things a bit easier, but does it make a difference? Thanks in advance.

radiant mode and all of the dlc makes the game a lot more tolerable. if you get frustrated even after that the game is so easily mod-able to reduce the grind and tailor the experience as much as you see fit. this game is worth the money hands down

I actually heard the DLC makes things harder in some aspects, but I'll look into it, thanks.

Some of the modded in classes are crazy overpowered too ... I'm looking at you Pit-fighter!

actually going on the DLC quests (mainly talking about the courtyard here) and stuff are for sure more difficult than the main game, but considering they are basically optional and give you access to districts as well as the shieldbreaker i would say the dlc could overall make the game easier, or at least lessen the grind like you are worrying about with buildings such as the bank.

Of course like with pretty much all SP games you can cheese it and copy your save file regularly and replace it if things go too wrong. Defeats the purpose of the game somewhat, but it is an option should you so wish.

You don't have to let it do that. If you play DD like it's final fantasy, yes you'll find it extremely punishing, but if you play DD like it's DD, then it's fine.

Thank you all for the replies. After doing a bit more research, reading posts and reviews etc., I've decided this game is not for me. I don't mind a challenge, but randomness coupled with mandatory ironman is not something I'm interested in. I have enough games in my Steam library that I need to get around to anyway. :)

Hollow Knight is the most OP mod

Just use a trainer to give yourself infinite gold. That way the RNG is somewhat mitigated.

Characters level up too quickly. And there follow a lot of problems, like having too many characters in order to be able to play the ones you like for the levels you still need to complete, making you losing your precious time within otherwise useless team management.

And the RNG doesn't help either in this field, with the diseases/mental disabilities and stress curing it will trigger, forcing you to triple the number of heroes you would otherwise need to play this game in order to organize your party shifts, curing the damaged, and so on.

Plus it needs a lot of farming, but the game is slow. Very bad combination. My it is sooo slow! Every single fight movement will result in a 3 to 7 seconds step pro character/enemy, with slow-mo half animation, buff or debuff signaletics, displacement and so on (the more effects your opponents/characters do, the slower the fight will be). It is so horrendous that once I see the opposite team getting it turn with the certainty that more than 2 of them will play before my characters, I usually do something else and get back to the game a minute or more later (not that it takes so much time, but I won't stay idly 15 to 30 seconds watching something I've already seen hundreds of times).

But then I'm playing on PSVita as it seemed the perfect WC-time sort of game, so that it might not be a problem on PC, don't know. My opinion generally is that it is a good game at the beginning, but after ten hours or so, it just get boring slow, even while taking a ♥♥♥♥. That means it is too expensive for what it is worth. But then that's just my opinion.

Er, what?

And there follow a lot of problems, like having too many characters in order to be able to play the ones you like for the levels you still need to complete, making you losing your precious time within otherwise useless team management.

This isn't a game where you're meant to adopt favourites or use preset teams and nothing else. Only people who play that way can make this complaint. It's like playing Paper Rock Scissors, using Rock every single time and wondering why it's just not working.

And the RNG doesn't help either in this field, with the diseases/mental disabilities and stress curing it will trigger,

Then you're lucky your 'characters level up too quickly', right? Why would if matter if X got diseased if everything levels up so fast and you have alternative characters to use?

forcing you to triple the number of heroes you would otherwise need to play this game in order to organize your party shifts, curing the damaged, and so on.

This is the type of criticism that can only come from someone who doesn't realize what they need for Darkest Dungeon later on and/or above mentioned desire to play it like it's an RPG with limited characters that you stick with from start to finish. This is not that game. To quote what No-One said earlier, if you play it like it's DD, it's much better than trying to play it like it's Final Fantasy or similar.

I get that people have their own opinions and you're welcome to them - but I see a lot of said opinions primarily coming from people who prove that they're really not approaching the game with the right mindset in the first place.

You can mod this to be a lot more tolerable. I usually just use Faster Darkest Dungeon although there are mods that are more specific to combat/walking/scouting or some other specific thing that people find irritating. Faster DD does most of them pretty well.

I only walk away and come back if I suspect something is about to happen that might enrage me if I had to just sit there and watch it like an idiot.

honestly the game is challenging, but also rewarding

you need to get into some mechanics that are not clear at first (guides could help) but if you like turn based games you should consider this one.

some games have a difficult start and then once you grind things get easier, here is always a challenge BUT with some attention you can overcome bad situations.

even if you can't do the save/reload trick bcs permadeath building your village will improve your journey. for example you start with lvl 0 char but after some building enhancement you can recruit lvl 1,2 etc char.

it requires time but RNG is in almost every turn based game. i come from divinity original sin, x com and this game is a gem imho, addicting after a while

hope it helps

At least you won't miss with 95% chance to hit unlike x-com
Get speed and you will likely get to go first
Get accuracy and you will miss rarely if not at all
Lock most potent positive quirks and try to force game to lock most harmless negative ones
Rng in this game can be minimised
About managing your roster:
For example in x-com you're forced to cure injured soldiers before you can send them again so you need more recruits to be able to proceed and it costs money
Here you may have as many heroes as your roster upgrade provides, it doesn't cost a thing to hire a new one or maintain current number, in any second if you decide it's cheeper to get rid of hero and get the new one rather than cure him you won't be punished at all
Also u don't need every class in order to play so why don't pick some more of your favourite?
