crash on return to hamlet
every time I leave a dungeon for the last 20 weeks or so, the game crashes.

I backup my saves, so I can overwite the crashed save with a backup, restart the game, and try again.

i've tried everything from disabling town events, to running the debugger, to disabling the sound, trying to leave at different spots in the dungeon...

and all these things work... sometimes. but it's gotten to where I have to randomly try different things about 6 or 7 times before I can finally get a clean exit from a dungeon.

I've seen this reported over the years, but none of the threads have any permanent fix for it, or have identified what causes it. and I have looked, believe me.

but... in desperation I gotta ask...

has anyone figured out why the game does this, and/or a reliable workaround?

because it's become so irritating I'm thinking of just doing the final mission (heart) and skipping the rest.

...right then, time to end this campaign.

will probably start a new campaign when Marvin's new dungeon is done.

...and...

it crashes at the very end, just as I strike the final blow on the heart.

LOL

holy crap, I think I have figured out how to fix this!

just before I fought the last boss, I decided to try deleting my global.json file in my current profile.

...and that fixed the crash! the game rebuilt it on exiting the dungeon with the proper info, and everything is fine.

so I'm guessing at some point it got corrupted, and rebuilding it fixed it.

huzzah.

do you happen to remember the file path? Otherwise my life is on pause

sorry, that was five years ago. For most games, profiles are saved in the directory where savegames are kept. look there. failing that, just use file explorer to search both the directory the game is installed in, and your savegame directory for the file.
