DLC's worth it?
Hey guys, I only own the base game but since the summer sale rolled around i thought I would pick up all the dlc that i missed. But, when I went to the store page I found all of the mixed reviews and some people talking of how crimson court "ruined the base game", but also some saying that it had been fixed.

So, are the dlcs now a good expansions, or should i wait?

(Sorry for the realy longwinded explanation for a simple question)

Crimson court is the only DLC that intimidates new/inexperienced players. As it brings additional mechanics that the player has to deal with. However like all DLC, you can choose which DLC is active for your save games and you can even activate crimson court at a later date. (ex. you can start a new game play 20 weeks or so and then activate crimson court).

All the other DLC's are worth it and ready to be used from day 1 of a save game.

I had contemplated this myself and after digging through volumes of posts on Steam and Reddit I concluded that the DLC's seem more peripheral to the game rather than adding an entirely new experience. I decided not to purchase the DLCs and have had a blast with the mod workshop.

The DLC's aren't that good unless you want to add more bullsh*t to the game.

I originally stayed away from Crimson Court because of reviews that said it made the game too hard. I've found that either they were wrong and didn't give it a chance or it has since been fixed. Far as I can tell Crimson Court just adds another layer of stress, which can be countered as easily as every other factor in the game. A little preparation and extra work makes the court just as manageable as anything else I've faced.

Whether you want another factor in the game to deal with will be entirely up to you. Maybe my fear level wasn't high enough in vanilla, I dunno... :spazdunno:

I haven't tried CoM yet.

Well theres 2 options, do a full playtrough with the vanilla game, THEN buy all DLC and do a second playtrough with all DLC enabled OR play with everything right from the start. Both is viable but this game is VERY long (hundreds of hours probably) so i find it unlikely that someone would start over again easily.

ALL DLC are good, none are essential. Crimson court makes the game a lot harder for beginners but each part of the DLC can be activated separately. Shieldbreaker is definitely worth it.

Madness is worth in terms of cost/benefit, but hardly something you will miss as a beginner, and mostly for lategame after finishing the normal game.

My advice would be buy everything (if u can) and play with everything enabled.

DLC's are absolutely worth it, infact, they are realitivity high value, imo, for what you get at a low cost.

I would highly recommend the Shieldbreaker. She's insanely powerful and useful and you can create amazing synergies with her.

As far as the Crimson Court and Color of Madness go... eh? They really aren't that impressive, and the storylines are relatively short when you get down to it. You aren't missing a ton of content if you don't get them.

Shieldbreaker isn't that powerful and she has a ridiculous, unavoidable ambush attack you have to go through when you camp with her that is guaranteed to stress her out and will probably hurt the whole party. She's trash. The "stealth" mechanic is trash. The DLC is trash.

Crimson Court is meh. Flagellant was a really strong character but after the nerfs now is still on the stronger side but kind of whatever. The curse is stupidly annoying. Doesn't really add any significant enjoyability to the game. The Fanatic encounter it adds is also stupid. Added districts are cool but most don't do ♥♥♥♥ at all for you until very end game.

Color of Madness is also stupid. Adds an annoying random, roaming boss who isn't worth fighting. The fights in the farmstead and the endless mode are also dumb.

All the DLC's for this game are pretty disappointing IMHO. Can play the base game without any of them but with mods and not be missing much. Maybe just get crimson curse for flagellant and districts but turn off the curse and courtyard garbage.

The Shieldbreaker ambushes really are a lot of trouble. They do attempt to reward you with an item that can protect you fully from one attack for the character that uses it, and I think you get 3 per ambush, but it's hard fought.

The DLCs are all the same quality as the base game. There's an issue with quantity...or perhaps you can say the base game is underpriced. A great bargain.

As per Jubeithar and Pontiac Jones, Crimson Court is not suitable if you're already struggling, because it adds to complexity and the CC fights are a notch above vanilla fights. If you're not already struggling, then I can recommend it. You can always test it out on a new save, anyway, and not enable it on your main estate if it doesn't sit well with you.

Shieldbreaker adds a class and a few fights. Colour of Madness adds a small new area with unique mechanics and some simple new curios, three new bosses, an endless mode for those into that sort of thing, and is very pretty.

I feel like you can comfortably skip all dlc, but it's there if you just feel like you want more. The extra classes are nice to have, especially CC's flagellant, but really, the rest of the content is only for those asking for more punishment. The quality is there, however.

Ignore everyone who says the crimson DLC is hard lawl. The game most of time is controllable, if not retreat. ALWAYS retreat before more than 1 hero gets afflicted if you think it's a risk. I'm in my current playthrough I've 0 deaths in over 100 weeks.

The crimson court changes the base experience.

The Problem is simple, if you play with CC, you will not find into the game the same way you would have in the base game.
Red Hook took the old way, CC is more of an Addon than a DLC.

Did you play Warcraft 3? Think of it as skipping the base game reign of chaos, and only playing the Addon Frozen Throne.

CC doesn "ruin" the base game, it... more of removes and replaces it. The Curse spreads everywhere, and you can't ignore it.

Part of the base game was fighting evil at your own speed. If you can't go somewhere, because your heros where stressed or to weak, then you didn't. Evil is endless and timeless, so you could.

But with the curse, more heros get infected, in town and in normal dungeons. the infected need blood... or die. You HAVE TO get blood, or lose your heros.

So, you should play without CC at least once. Maybe even more than once.

Parts of the DLC can be loaded because of this:
You can play with the new hero and the new town addtions, but without the dungeon and the curse because of this.

The DLC's improve the base game significantly.
