When to enable dlc.
hay recently beat this game on console, just bought it on pc for mods and access to colour of madness.

when i first played DD i enabled CC as soon as i got it. which bit me in the arse because of the town events right from the start and the curse right from the start.

also does colour of madness have negative effects if you enable it too early?

should i enable CC/CoM at the start or should i wait untill a certain recomended criteria is met?

i have beaten the game on console including CC and i had at least one level 6 for each class, all upgrades and buildings (appart from the red hook) and have a gameplay style that focases on bleed damage more than anything. (not for ruins)

so i know what i'm getting into i just don't wanna shoot myself in the foot.

i would also note that i did try bloodmoon however i quickly gave up after the second enemy encounted in the first dungeon was a collector that killed dismas.

edit: also do mods affect achivements? i know they do on console.

Understood. I still wouldn't start until until week 25'ish but mostly because I like to have a good set of choices (and quirks) for what to bring in to the Courtyard, at any point. Mods do NOT affect achievements, as stated by a PSA that should still be stickied in this forum. :)
Edit: Also, be aware you won't gain access to certain quirks without activating 'Color of Madness,' such as [/i]Luminous[/i].

I'd recommend enabling Districts, the Flagellant, the Shieldbreaker, and Color of Madness from the very start of your Estate. The Courtyard portion of Crimson Court is the only part that will do anything to trip you up, which is to lock in a Town Event ('The Town is Abuzz') which lowers stress relief via the Tavern & Abbey until you complete the first Courtyard mission. It doesn't stop any of the town events that are forced (mostly those coming with other DLC or from successfully completing a Gather / Activate quest), but the majority of very useful TE's will halt. The advantage to activating it is that it halts those same Events, including 2 that are pretty rough unless you have prepared for them.

Activating the Musketeer (free DLC) can also be done at start and as it's really just a re-skin of the Arbalest, Red Hook just split the difference for how often they show up on the 'Coach.

Personally recommend not starting the Courtyard until you have upgraded your town's basic buildings to a healthy extent (which varies for everyone). Week 25+ is my general rule, but meh: whatever works.

Note that enabling the Courtyard at start is probably a pretty good idea if you're on a Bloodmoon run: gotta get in their fast and show of that Champion meta-mind backing up your novice mercs.

I had zero problems with CC enabled right from the start - the ONLY event you get before you go to CC is reduced stress recovery in town, which is a non-issue.
But yeah might as well just activate it at like week 20-30.

Just enable it from the start, but don't go to the courtyard until like week 25.

when does the infestation start?
is it after you enter the courtyard for the first time?

i know the town is abuzz is weak but its still tho.

i was going to enable it when i'm ready but you need invatations to enter and they take a while to build up.

You can get infected in that first Courtyard mission, and the bad news is that once you complete that first quest, you can get infected in any other area of the game.

Infection starts after completion of the first Courtyard mission, I believe. In honesty, I always make point of completing the first mission immediately, because it's short (relatively) and I make a point of going in with a level 1 & 2 group that has maxed equipment and combat abilities.

On invites, true, but you do currently get an invitation immediately after defeating the initial boss of any Courtyard mission, which certainly helps. Also, the infection-incursion keeps rising regardless of what region you visit, though I have to admit it's actually been a while and I don't remember how long before the enemies that drop the invites start showing up (I know the level, I just can't remember the timeline).

so basicly enable everything appart from the main CC dlc untill i'm ready to deal with it, since i focas my gameplay on bleed builds it should be quite quickly.

Enable everything, once you get skill lvl 3 and one armor and weapon upgrade you can do first crimson court quest VERY safe. I usually do the first crimson court in week 8-9 because I already did it a couple of times. (bring 2x movers)

Usually then I blitz through CC until I am at the final boss, then I delay killing the boss until I am done with every other boss in the game. The crimson court bugs are a lot easier to deal with than the high level standard enemies.

Yeah, sounds about right. For me, I prefer to build up a fair bit of the town first, but there's a certain emptiness to that, since part of the gain to looting the Courtyard is the massive amount of heirlooms and gold you can gather.
