I went along geared to the teeth with my best people, fully expecting to have two boss fights in one quest.
Mr Stars is nowhere to be seen, scoured every corner again. :(
If you've got good scouting, you can sometimes spot him in advance, actually. Outside of the Crimson Court, you'll never get two hallway-fights in the same hallway - unless one of them is a 'special' encounter like the Thing. So if you go into the area where he's hanging out this week and spot a hallway with two encounters in it, one of them is almost certainly the Thing... handy for planning when to Rest.
Oh, and one other thing... while you certainly CAN encounter him on Apprentice-maps, there's really no point in doing so. He won't drop anything worthwhile. Meanwhile, the Veteran-version has essentially the same drops as the Champion, so it's not a bad idea to aim for that one...
(As a footnote... in my experience, after spending a lot of time hunting that Thing, I think he's got an encounter-rate of about 80%... so him failing to put in an appearance twice in a row is bad luck indeed, but not THAT strange.)
You're welcome. Though, keep in mind, the reason I know this is that I mucked around in the loot-drop tables after fighting him half a dozen times and getting nothing to show for it. Turns out that just like I feared, his odds of dropping ANYTHING worthwhile is AWFUL. He's far more likely to just give you some random Rare or Very Rare Trinket, rather than one of his unique 'Thing'-class Trinkets or a Memory. (Or at least he was... until I edited the loot-drop tables in my game. :P)
Well, 80% is certain not, unless there are more % if u go on medium or long dungeons, because I went 3 times on short and none of that m@## appeared! I got twice fights against him in Medium dungeon... SO, I think the range is a count too!
Ps. All my runs was in Champion LVL.
Another thing... HE WON'T DROP ANY SPECIAL TRINKETS IN THOSE TWO FIGHTS! Farm Collectors or Crimson enemies was way better than this fu@# Thing. Be prepared to get mad at him!
Ps. OR I am a f@#$@ed in luck and the game is making fun of me OR The devs need to look this (Probably they won't, because DD2 is here in some months)
Finally, I saw in some forum that have a Mod who add a loading screen for when Thing is present in a dungeon ... I gonna try this and see if work, because chase him for nothing is ruining my time!

Allegedly the spawn chance is 50%.
But yes, expect to be farming for dozens upon dozens of weeks if you want to collect his trinkets. Much better to be doing something else and collect them as a by-product, e.g. I have one estate at week 400 for party testing purposes. It has all the Thing trinkets because week ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ 400.
