Rarity & Drop Chance for Madman Music Boxes?
This one has kind of surprised me and I'm wondering if there is a particular region or difficulty level (apprentic, veteran, champion) that has a higher drop rate. Normally I wouldn't be too surprised I hadn't picked up ANY of the music boxes, but I'm in something of an odd position.

  • I'm on week 84 of a 'Darkest' Estate with all DLC loaded (Courtyard not activated until week 40 or 41 as I was somewhat gaming the system to avoid a certain ♥♥♥♥♥♥ bird)
  • The Town is fully upgraded save for the Tavern & Abbey (Abbey is done save for the 3rd cell of the Cloister, Transept, and Penance Chamber). Heirlooms are currently being stockpiled for the Districts, 'cause screw the Tavern.
  • Bank is active with a current account balance of just a little under 300K. I could have gone nuts with it but I've actually been working to keep it from spiraling up into the stratosphere.
  • Reasoning behind the super slow and grindy approach is because I'm trying to get a roster that for the most part has one of every hero with a quirk or pair of quirks that I feel is simply the best fit to them (Eagle Eye & Unerring on the Arbalest, by example). I'm actually almost done with this, just waiting on a Plague Doctor after I got a Leper starting with Natural Swing that then lucked out and got Slugger.
  • I have all 3 Head Trinkets, as well as every Ancestor drop possible from the Shambler, minus the Ancestor's Bottle (no big loss)
  • Every single region has been leveled to 7, with only the Brigand 8 Pounder, Swing Prince, and Flesh remaining of the Apprentice Bosses (more because of a wait on a particular hero type and trinket availability)
  • Have not started the Courtyard yet as I was waiting for my perfect team of BA's to be assembled and loaded with preferential quirks (currently there, now just waiting on a trinket that'll grab me (probably MaA's standard).
  • Have not entered the Farmstead as I am currently waiting on an appropriate Plague Doctor.

Obviously this is something of a non standard run, but I'm not using any mods or exploits (beyond the activation of the Courtyard) so I'm not seeing a problem there.

Supposedly they have a 4% drop rate off of any Madman spawn, independent of difficulty level.

Yeah, noted (wiki and patch notes haven't changed at all) and I normally would believe it, but 84 weeks with more than few encounters with the escaped loons have made me question the accuracy of that.

i have 2 boxes after 99-101 weeks... better you wait a bit more

I think I found two within the first ~30 weeks of my current game. Haven't found the third yet now even though I'm around 70.

4% is 4%

People have also had all 3 boxes by week 30, so I'm going to have to say my suspicions are still a little raised. I come back at week 208 (4 years of this, if that were an achievement) and I'm calling BS.

Over two games, I had over 100 hours before I got one of these boxes.

After I got the Crescendo Box, the next two Madman encounters dropped the other two in the very next mission. The odds of that have to be fairly ridiculous.

As long as we're necroing, I just saw two Shambler shrines back to back, in a short mission no less.

Really? I've seen that post about 2 shambler Alters coming out fairly often on Reddit.

So hum... I got 350hs on the game across three years. Played it in normal and finished it a few times (never beaten full on hard mode but I got pretty far into it) and I have never; NEVER seen any of them. I learned about their existence watching a playthough about a year ago and I still haven gotten them.
So yeah, good luck with that.

--EDIT-- and then 15 mins later I get Aria Box, so I guess i just had to complain about it.

I didn't get any of them for a couple hundred hours and then got all three in back to back Madman fights over two missions. I don't know how rare they are but they're not as rare as the Tempting Goblet (sometimes those ♥♥♥♥♥♥ wine flinging skellies drop those).

It was year 2018 Anno Domini, and humans were still baffled by the concept of a random number generator.

You can call BS all you want, OP, but this is how chance drops work. There is no evil developer controlling your game remotely and gleefully cackling at your lack of drops, believe it or not.

Fantastic attempt at starting something when there's nothing to start. The OP was back on Jul 23rd and it was a head scratcher post rather than anything else. Get your giggles by poking babies with a stick like you used to, you'll have more success.

Good to see you are just as much of a passive-aggressive head scratcher as you were on July 23.

Good luck with your drops.
