Does the Fanatic stay dead if I kill him and abandon the mission?

Thank

Yes, he will stay dead for that infestation cycle. He will respawn during the next infestation cycle. As the user above said, he ceases to appear altogether once you kill the Countess.

The Fanatic never 'stays dead' I think. He just goes away once you kill the Countess.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

If I recall correctly, the Fanatic's spawn rate is directly linked to the number of cursed heroes you bring. His level is also tied to that of the dungeon, with the Champion-level Fanatic being a particularly nasty opponent. If you don't want to deal with his shenanigans, don't bring more than one cursed character on a dungeon run, because the process of defeating him may necessitate your abandoning that mission... which could be counterproductive if you were hoping to reap the rewards of a Town Event like Caregiver's Convention.

In short, I found that the best way to deal with the Fanatic was simply to avoid him, by ensuring that he never spawned.

Corruption level also plays into his spawn rate

I have never fought the Champion Fanatic.

I just run away.

Hello

This is wrong

That is all

OK but seriously, perhaps Radiant difficulty changes this (for some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ infuriating reason) but I can guarantee that, no, killing the fanatic does NOT stop him from appearing again during the same infestation cycle. I had this fact painfully driven into my mind not five minutes ago as I watched my entire B team get their ♥♥♥♥ stomped by an inexplicably resurrected Fanatic.

Perhaps this is a glitch, but WARNING, WARNING, KILLING THE FANATIC DOES NOT STOP HIM FROM SHOWING UP AGAIN DURING THE SAME INFESTATION CYCLE!

I'm not sure, but I remember someone talking about this in the official DDcord.

I think Fanatic only goes away for that difficulty for the current infestation cycle if you beat him.

Hm... been almost 2 and a half years since SunDrippedDevil last logged on.

Nice to see that his ban eventually either expired or was rescinded though. Always hard to gauge the cause of such a long absence in this digital age. Bruce Sterling called it "fading". And yeah, it was just as dark as it sounds.

I'm not banned from the Darkest Dungeon forums. Just BL2. I had a stroke, recovered, fell off my longboard and had a grade 5 ac joint separation, recovered, got adopted by 5 cats and generally don't have time to play video games much anymore. Though I still do play darkest dungeon on the switch while pretending to work sometimes.

The Fanatic doesn't respawn until the next infestation cycle if you kill him. You can verify this easily with a simple google search, or this link to a game dev saying so:

Thanks for all the feedback, I'll make sure Tyler/Dana see this. As to how often you have to fight him. He should only appear once per infestation cycle if you defeat him. So should only fight him a total of 3 times, but he can be somewhat dodged as he only hunts Cursed Characters.

What a dumb necro. You probably had a glitch or some sort of weird mod interaction.

Hiiiii Nakos!!! Hope you're doing well!

While we're on the subject; whats the best strategy to trivialise him?
The only one I can think of involves a man-at-arms and shard dust but... well, thats just cheap and works on damn near everything.
In every other scenario a champion fanatic seems to be an "oh ♥♥♥♥" moment.
I've never had to fight him so I didn't, nothing to gain. But I'm considering giving him a go for giggles.

IMO it's kinda like a Fight Club type of thing.

While we're necro'ing a long-dead thread here, there isn't one. You can mitigate and hope for the best, but the only way to trivialize him is just not to fight him.

The only boss in the game not worth fighting.
