I guess the number of "boss killed for the first time" is taken here. I saw this in other games, where the achievement is a number for the levels, but then later more levels where added, which means some can be skipped.
I guess they do count, but the total number of bosses wasn't raised.
To not get confusing i will break it down.
All the Areas have 2 bosses, like the witch and the cannon in the forest. Times 4 areas makes 8 bosses + 2 minibosses makes 10.
Then the DLC was added, giving you more bosses to beat. But the Achievemt is still given after 10 different bosses.
So if you killed the guardian first, he would have given it and not the countess
It is a nice idea, but I killed all bosses (exept the Guardian) in the game before beating the first Darkest Dungeon. That means all in all so many bosses were defeted: 8 area bosses + the crow + shambler + 3 in Crimson Court + Wulf + the Fanatic = 18 bosses for the achievement. The base game has 17.
It seems more that you have to defeat all area bosses but with the Crimson Court as a fifth area. With the Crimson Court not counting the Garden Guardian same as the crow or Wulf do not count for the forest.
