Exactly, that's the point! xD
1) Gameplay.
In general, it's simpler in Vambrance, which doesn't mean it's worse. Thanks to its simplicity, I suspect that in Vambrance there will be less beginners leaving the game, but not sure. I should add that DD with a proper guide is much easier than Vambrance without it.
The main differences in Vambrace are:
- Skills are short, middle, or long range. All of them can target enemies from position 1 and 2 from your positions 1 and 2. Middle skills can be used from 3-4 positions, but still against 1-2. Long skills can target anybody from any position.
- Some skills spend points. Without them, you'll have to wait to recover those points to use again such skills. Ofc, the more powerful the skill the more points it spends.
- Accuracy and damage depend from your Combat Atribute. Your damage is, on average, your Combat, but it's random, so it could be a little higher or (more often) a little lower.
- The other stat that influences in combat is Awareness, which works like DD Speed. Anyway, most of its uses are for non combat situations.
2) Graphics.
More detailed and complex in Vambrance. Does it mean they are better? No, they are just better suited for the game, as DD graphics are better for DD. IMHO DD graphichs are cool, while in Vambrance they are beautiful. I love both :)
3) Story, and characters.
Much more developed in Vambrance. I mean more work on them. Some characters have surprises, there are formidable twists on the plot, etc. Another interesting thing is that among the 'good' side there are several factions who strongly dislike each other, and all of them have a point. Well, their civil war made things easier for the cultist and they should work together if they want to survive, but their prejudices...
From a gameplay perspective there are two types of characters:
- Plot characters. The ones you speak with them. Detailed background and personality.
- Mercenaries that you recruit to combat with the protagonist. They are similar to DD characters (with a name but replaceable, and you only know them a little from short conversations in the fire).
Of course, in DD the story and characters are very efficient to bring you the intended atmosphere.
4) Atmosphere.
- In DD you are always fearing to die by a heart attack. And that evildoers do horrible things with your corpse or spirit.
- In Vambrance you are always fearing to die frozen. And become a raging ghost.
Lovecraft or frozen ghosts XD
My veredict)
There is no an objectively better game in any aspect, it just depends on your tastes.
Personally, although I prefer DD I am glad to have bought both. If you only have money for one, then see the graphics and think what style suits you the best, because both of them have graphics warning about the kind of game you'll find.
Both have a great replayability. :)
