Opinion on Epic-Length Quests?
I'm working on a mod right now that will feature custom maps.
I'm considering condensing multiple maps into a CC-style "Epic" Length quest.
I was curious if people generally liked these or disliked them for their length and difficulty.

IMO they're more fun, and make more sense than random dungeons sprouting every week.

They cool for a bit, but on repeat playthroughs the back tracking in a certain one makes me wanna shoot myself in the forehead, but its a nice change of pace the first time around

My main issue with epics is the invitation system.
The idea is obviously that you dive into them multiple times. However, they screwed up the balance. Especially on bloodmoon with a week limit, the most efficient way to deal with it is to marathon them. That many hours with the same party against the same enemies gets well monotonous.

>Wait too long to get any invitations
>Leave every dungeon with about 5 of the bloody things so now you're drowning in them

Id like to see a vanilla version of an epic quest with out the invitation system. you could easly just add in the wine crates for firewood and torches. not sure if its possible but it would be cool imo if the dungeon had depth as in you go deeper into the dungeon. such as first floor is a short then you find the stairs and head to a med size ect. don't know how hard that would be to make.

That's what 'm doing. Replace random generated boss quests with unique ones where it's a short mission, followed by a longer one, then the longest epic quest. Not hard to make but making maps does take time.

I like these for their difficulty and for the ability to leave and come back. It makes the play more flexible. If you want to do a story type mod that adds content, that's probably one of the better ways to make it interesting, although I haven't seen it done much.

They have their advantages but after some time they are getting pain in the butt.
I would loved however something longer than long with resource limit of long dungeon.
Fialure would equalled death of all characters and no option to retrieve loot from that dungeon by shrieker.
Although I guess mine idea has certain flaw since healing characters can keep party healthy nearly endlessly so it would be awesome if heal effects would lasted only for a fight and after its conclusion characters would be returning to lowest level of health they experienced in that fight.
That way running out of food would become real possibility.

I'm actually really intrigued by this. Looking forward to trying it out once it releases.

That's actually an interesting idea. I'll keep it in mind.
