class-specific very rare trinkets
while grinding my entire roster to level 6 due to the fear that i might suffer another wipe in the darkest dungeon, i have pondered on the fact that many of the legendary trinkets for each hero (each class has one) are, while interesting, are very gimmicky. for instance, the bh's helmet is a huge damage boost... and yet it makes all of his support skills (save for caltrops) effectively useless. that's not a great example because damage buffs are not that great in champ dungeons but, looking at the man at arms's special trinket, it deletes half of his skillset and turns him into a p4 support character, which is pretty cool to me. that being said, given the potential he has with guard and riposte and the stun he has with rampart, it doesn't seem viable. what i'm wondering is: which of the very rare class-specific trinkets are actually good and which are more inclined to be used for a fun temp comp?

i agree almost completely but i actually think eternity's collar is not utter garbage because the damage buff is so easy to get. that being said there are way better trinkets that do the same thing. my favourite is def the pd one. so much fun to hit three blinding gases in a row and the negative i nearly nothing especially with prophet's eye
edit: idk about restraining padlock either because even with it the stress penalty is pretty severe and padlock of transference is absolute god-tier

I just love it because the Abomination is my one of favorite classes. The stress can add up quick even with the Restraining Padlock, but the Lock reduces it from about a 12 stress hit to about a 7. It's a lot easier to manage that way, and so long as I bring someone who can heal that stress off while camping or during battle it's never an issue.

These are mostly situationally useful, like ♥♥♥'s Restraining Padlock for boss fights or where they're going to transform a lot. Since I almost never actually do that, though, I rarely use the trinket.

ANT's Candle of Life turns her from a pitiful healer to a mediocre healer. That is often worth doing.

MUS/ARB's trinkets are great for a position 4 MUS/ARB, especially in combo with something like Prophet's Eye for ACC. Since I pretty much always have MUS/ARB there I'll pretty much always use these.

BH's is just bad. I can live without Move chance but wrecking his stun is not acceptable even if I don't use it that often.

CRU's is a decent anti-stress trinket with some resistances I don't care much about and +Virtue which I also don't care much about and +Deathblow resist which I also don't care much about. I rarely use it.

FLA's Eternity's Collar. Why? Why do I want any of this. Pass.

I prefer GR's +ACC rare trinket to her very rare, but it's a nice scouting trinket, +CRIT is always good, I might use both sometimes.

Hell's Hairpin would be good for low light parties, and I rarely use those, so again, I prefer the rare.

Gunslinger's Buckle is situationally useful if you're going to do a full Ranged HWM and I'm usually not going to do that. Anything that debuffs Melee damage is poison to me. I'm almost always going to want to be laying down his melee bleed at some point.

Spiked Collar for HM. I don't know, I just looked at this and wonder why I don't use it more often. I don't really care about the +Bleed since his bleed isn't that great anyway, but +20% DMG with no minuses isn't shabby. It may just be I usually have HM in the back and things like Prophet's Eye or some other trinkets are usually better. I like buffing ACC more than DMG because predictable damage output is more important than raw DMG although if I can do both, why not?

Jester's Dark Tambourine, similarly, is a dark trinket, and I'd usually rather use the Rare which is a high light trinket.

Leper's Berserk Mask, jacking up his crit isn't terrible but again I want ACC on him. All that damage isn't going to help me if this ugly bastard misses again. Crit on Leper is nice for the stress heal, but the actual damage is often just overkilling some trash mob that could have been killed with a normal hit. It's okay in endless where you really want to jack up your crit and where you're getting huge ACC boosts from spamming Battle Ballad with the Jester anyway.

It's a good way you can use Leper, otherwise without stress skills, as a sort of side stress healer in addition to his usual bonehead strength.

Guardian's Shield for the MAA as you mentioned is a gimmick which gives you one more thing to do with MAA, it just isn't a very good one more thing and you'll rarely use it in practice. Even Rampart Shield is better and its DMG debuff also makes it distasteful.

Demon's Cauldron for Occultist. Absolutely god-tier and makes his stun the most powerful single target stun in the game.

Blasphemous Vial for PD. Easily the most god-tier of the Very Rares. Use it everywhere.

Shieldbreaker's are kind of pointless to me.

And coming in dead last in the list as well as dead last, as in you'd never catch me dead using it, Sacred Scroll. Utterly terrible item.

i think sacred scroll is worth more than people give it credit for when you stack it with her other healing trinket. i recently beat dd2 (yay!) with those two because i had maa and bh in front with dazzling charm on the bh. needless to say i didn't ever really need to use vestal's stun except for stunning the dancers who have low stun resistance anyways. outside of the context of massive heals being a necessity, it is a pretty worthless item, esp if you're running her in ruins or pretty much any champion dungeon. and for leper it's kind of funny that one of his uncommons is better than his very rare given that his whole ideal is that trinkets compensate for his terrible acc

If I'm going to use any kind of healing trinket except in the lamentable situation of actually using that miserable head trinket, it's going to be Ancestor's Scroll, Tome of Holy Healing or, preferably, her Crystal trinket. I'm not going to stack two, although it's a mildly reasonable strategy for if you're going into a dungeon you expect to have genuinely terrible damage exposure in and don't know what's in there.

Usually, though, I'm going to have Prophet's Eye on her or (if I don't have that) Sniper's Ring. I don't like the speed hit, but I honestly don't care if Vestal acts last after the damage output for the round has already happened.

That way I can make an informed decision on whether anyone needs a real heal, whether to throw down an AoE or (more often) do some damage with her instead. I can go through some runs without even using her heal, and Sacred Scroll absolutely ruins the rest of her kit.

I've been locked into prophet's eye + spiked collar on my HMs recently. The bleed is surprisingly big, and having it all but guaranteed raises his minimum damage. 7+20%= 9, + bleed => 11 or 13, almost double at the end there. I also drop a self-heal (or guard) and put on hound's harry, which potentially applies the biggest total bleed in the game, 12.

PD trinkets in general are god-tier. And her baseline is fantastic, it's really unfair.

I've recently become less averse to the sacred scroll. Judgment does as much damage as a bleedless flagellant, and I typically use her as a healbot anyway. That said it's only an 8% increase over e.g. a salacious diary, though the -stress is a nice bonus. Because she's healing she doesn't get crit soothe or kill soothe.

I would 100% use cuirboilli if the spectral speartip didn't exist. Her HP or prot 100% needs a boost, or you have to nerf her damage to hell by opening with serpent sway, on top of eating 25% of her slots.

Stuff like the -stress on holy orders is actually good in endless. A lot of the game is designed for fights being a lot slower than they in fact are, but endless is necessarily slow in the right sort of way. However, there are better options.

Gunslinger is at least a net increase. Yeah you lose riposte damage but you gain a lot in PBS and row 4 potential, especially after cleaning the guns.

Raider's talisman is an interesting combo of scout+crit, but she already has the best speed and the best trap disarm in the game, so I'm fairly skeptical about it.

The cauldron puts the occultist's stun at the highest percentage, and gives bonus stats on top. Every stun trinket got nerfed (rightly so IMO) except that one, and they buffed the OCC's baseline stun at the time.

IMO the 'zerk mask is unusable. Sure the speed is nice, but you really notice the -heal taken, and the leper benefits the most of anyone from +acc and especially +damage.

- Restraining Padlock is something I used to actively hunt down whenever it presented itself; I found the numbers on it to be appealing and gave me one less thing to really think about gearing for quests, as it became an auto-equip on ABOM pretty quickly (I have four in my original Estate). Nowadays, I completely ignore it, as I only use abstinence ABOM. C+
- Candle of Life is the secondary option for my ANTIs, as I rarely use Fortifying Vapors and almost always emphasize her Dodge when using; this is used only if I lack Fleet Forin and/or Smoking Skull. It's a very good trinket in a vaccum, but more than any other of the ANTI's standard equipment, it would benefit from belogning to another class. B
- Wrathful Headgear leaves me conflicted, as the Dmg buff is sick, but I never use the debuff aspect of it and recently have found myself leaning on Battlefield Bandage more and more, so the healing debuff becomes gimping, almost crippling. C, maybe C+
- Wounding Helmet has slowly risen from being something I hardly use to being neck-and-neck with Unmovable Helmet and Vvulf's Tassel as BH's go-tos, as I've observed his Dmg output is pitiful without the mark; with the appropriate party support, the Helmet suddenly replaces the lack of mark (and provides some crazy boosts with it on). Full disclosure, I say this having never tried any of his DLC trinkets; A-
- Holy Orders is something I've hardly ever used, can't really form an opinion on it. N/A
- Eternity's Collar only held appeal to me in the beginning; since then, I've become infinitely more attached to Suffering's Collar, find Flesh's Heart is his primary ally, and think Martyr's Seal is simply a better version of it, even if the two actually do fairly different things. D
- Raider's Talisman probably augments its host class' strengths more than any other Very Rare, and I unequivocally always bring this along with a GR. As someone who values Trap Disarm/Scouting/Surprise Chances more than I probably should, this thing paired with the Ancestor's Map on someone else (who has the slot for it), is one of my favorite party trinket combos. S
- Hell's Hairpin I rarely use, but when I do it comes through constantly, often allowing me to leave Hellion alone in terms of buffing; as someone who rarely uses Bleed Out or Breakthrough, that's often enough to leave her self-sufficient for the duration of the quest. Then again, low light is low light...C+ or B-
- Gunslinger's Buckle is the go-to for my HWM, never leave home without it, particularly since I don't Duelist's Advance at times after the first time (except in Endless); also don't use the other Melees as much as I used to, except for Wicked Slice. A+
- Spiked Collar is a solid choice for backline HM, as if I put him in Rank 2, I get scared of the lack of healing potential and don't equip it. As a backliner, he pretty much becomes offensive spam and is often kept healthy/efficient by clerics and support anyways. Good but somewhat inflexible collar. B+
- Dark Tambourine is hateful garbage, have only used it twice ever and, as the people who made a Reddit thread about it some time ago, only wish to see it cast into the deepest pits of the Abyss. F
- Berserk Mask is kinda meh for me: oftentimes LEP has to heal himself while teammates get the cleric's affection so the healing debuff sucks, Revenge will take care of his Crit so that boost is a bit redundant, and honestly I tend to see more tangible, immediate results from equipping just about everything else he has, outside of Redemption Amulet. The trinket second-most likely to get replaced by something more generic if no other class-specific options are available. D+
- Guardian Shield is my guilty pleasure in this game--it's obvious that MAA can function better in other Ranks, but man does it feel great to chuck him back there and leave him free to buff the ♥♥♥♥ out of everyone, while being mostly self-sufficient. Pair with Mirror Shield for best results! A, probably S+ in my silly mind
- Demon's Cauldron probably has the most noticeable impact on the performance of its wearer--I get so many crits and debuffs on the opposition with this on, I often wonder if my OCCs are just bugged in my favor. And I pretty much never use it for the Stun buff! Imagine how this would shoot up if I did...about the only negative for me is that it often tempts me to keep debuffing at times when I probably should heal or attack more directly. A
- Blasphemous Vial, as stated by others here, is top-notch, as with it on the PD's chances of doing stuff become virtually guaranteed. She's my top overall Cove Killer, mostly because of it. A+
- Cuirboilli is handy for my Rank 2 SB whenever I want to run a Chaingun comp, to better assure her going second. The three big issues with it are: it's mediocre outside of double SB comps, it's often more efficient for the Rank 1 SB to equip +Spd and for Rank 2 to equip her set, and for the amount of Dmg frontline SBs can take, the HP buff often doesn't cover her as much as you think it would. C
- Sacred Scroll is my second-favorite trinket to put on VES, behind Ancestor's Scroll; I find more downsides with her other trinkets than with this one, and I play her even more healbot-ish than some others here, I would bet. I run Illumination more often than Dazzling Gleam, so the Stun debuff is inconsequential to me. The one problem with it is that the the healing buff is the only one of consequence, so it's narrow in its utility and the Scroll will usually trump it--hell, I sometimes still run Chirurgeon's Charm ahead of it. B

With as many modded classes as I play, might add my thoughts on some of their trinkets in the future, as I continue to pick them up.

antiquitarian's is my go-to pick for her almost always, but especially in pre-champion dungeons where she's my only dedicated healer
