DLC worth it?
Debating if I should just get the base game or edition with all DLCs included, but the reviews are kind of making me hesitant on the DLCs. :speak:

CC is a good DLC, adds lots of things to do, enemies, bosses of which most are good, a class, districts, a disease which is just a fancy affliction, infestation is kinda meh with how it works but overall its the best DLC imo, nice for a second playthrough, easy to manage when you know the game but if you're new I'd hold off on using it until you know how to play/for a second run of the game

CoM is my next pick and can be summed up with the word blue, DLC has lots of blue, good DLC, too much blue, farm is blue, enemies are blue, 2/3 of the bosses are my least favourite fights, which is a subjective point I know, but I still like thing as a whole and one of those bosses is only annoying because of fighting him too many times. Trinkets are good memes and endless works nice with boss rush mods, which serves as a nice addition if normal endless gets stale

Next worth mentioning is the Musketeer DLC, its free no reason not to get it if you ask me

But, if you were getting them as an all as one, then they're mostly good, none are perfect, but they add some stuff to keep you playing

Haha, I would like the full experience if possible but some people on the reviews said the DLCs made the game even more unfair/unplayable in which case I'm okay with passing. But if it adds more monsters/classes and bosses I feel like it'd be worth it. I'll probably read more opinions in the morning before the sale ends and decide then. :trance:

If we're talking content to price wise CC is probably the best as it adds a new class, new trinkets, districts and a new dungeon. CoM is pretty cool with the crystals and I think it's cheaper but it's a more repetitive (but you already play darkest dungeon so that shouldn't be a problem). Personally I like the shieldbreaker as a character and that dlc is the cheapest but it's pretty much adding only one class. Essentially:
CoM: Get the crystal meth from the crystal meth farmers to buy stuff from the crystal meth merchant to get more crystal meth.
CC: The bigger, badder version of CoM where the crystal meth farmers are replaced by a bunch of demonic mosquitoes.
Shieldbreaker: Oh look a new class.
Crimson Court add a lot of difficulty to the game, if you like the game to be even more difficulty buy it. You have to deal with the mosquitoes which infect you with a disease and may appear in any vanilla dungeon, specially if the infestation level is high, it is also very long, each dungeon of the main story of the DLC is long, you need keys to unlock some rooms, and have almost a hundred of rooms, also, you can scape the dungeon and continue later in the same point it was when you leaved. It also add the flagellant, which is one of the best classes, and surprisingly good against the mosqutoes itself due their weakness to bleed, it's specialist in bleedings and a good but risky healer. Also, the disease have some beneficts, make the characters immune to any other disease and when you drink blood obtain some buffs and some of the new trinkets are designed for being used in infected characters.

CoM: have less content, but add an endless mode, another mode in which spend our time and try to beat your own records, also let you hire mercenary level 6 characters and a lot of good trinkets.

Most people here have already talked in great extent about CC and CoM DLCs but no-one has spoken much about the Shield-Breaker (SB).

To me, the SB is a great class and a fine addition to your roster. SB will more-than-likely sit on your first rank which is nice. Due to there only being 3 main front-rowers in vanilla (Crusader, MAA, and Leper - 4 if you count Hellion) so it adds a lot of diversity to your team comps. The SB can also sit in rows 2-3. Whether your SB is in position 1-3 it will be a primary/secondary damage dealer with a lot of utility.

Skills
The first thing you'll notice is that besides Captivate all moves either move the SB forward or back 1 rank.

  • Pierce will be your primary damage skill, hitting all ranks, and it's a forward 1. So your SB can start on rank 1 and be comfortable spamming this.

  • Puncture is also a forward 1 and has amazing utility. Being able to by-pass guard AND pull 2 from any enemy rank.

  • Impale is a fantastic ability and, in my opinion, the strongest all-enemy-rank hitting skills in the game. It's a heavy hitting, blight skill - also a back 1.

  • Adder's Kiss, in my opinion is the SBs most underwhelming skill. It's a +0% DMG, blight (100% base) skill. Great for confirmed blight synergy but that's about it's greatest strength.

  • Expose is a back 1 utility skill by-passing AND removing stealth on targets. which becomes a real threat in later dungeons. It is also a great debuffer the only downside worth noting is it doesn't hit rank 4 which can sometimes the the rank you need to de-stealth.

  • Captivate is the SBs only rank restrictive skill only able to be used in 2-3 but thankfully is easy to set up if SB is rank 1 due to the 3 back-1s she has. it's nice +40% DMG mark synergy as well as a 100% base blight.

  • Serpent Sway is a forward 1 self-buff. Giving 2 Aegis which is a 1-hit block. This is a perfect death's doors saver.

    Beware The Nightmares
Once you have a SB on your team you'll find that you don't receive any of her class items. This is due to the 'Nightmare' system they have. Whenever you camp you have a 50% chance to have a nightmare encounter as long as the SB is in your party (regardless of any 'avoid ambush' effects)

This nightmare will be a no-light fight with stealth/guard heavy enemies and will auto-flee if the SB enters deaths door, she can also not become virtuous during this. Each time you successfully complete a nightmare you will be rewarded with a class item and Aegis Scales which is a provision that gives aegis to one hero on use (perfect for heavy hitting bosses)

There will be 3 nightmares on Apprentice difficulty camps, 2 on Veteran and 2 on Champion. Once you've encountered all of them you'll have all of the SBs class items, including both CC trinkets sets. On top of this there will no longer be nightmares which is beneficial for taking her into the Darkest Dungeon or long quest.

The Crimson Court DLC adds a good amount of content so I would say it's worth it.
It makes the game more difficult, but it only increases the difficulty when you visit the Crimson Court, so if you prefer you can wait until you are stable before venturing in there.
(You will miss out on Town events until you do though)

The other dlcs add very little for their cost and especially the Color of Madness DLC is a major disappointment and feels completely seperated from the game.

I heavily disagree. CoM's new dungeon may feel isolated, but the other things it adds most certainly aren't. It adds about 24 new positive and negative quirks to improve the variety in your game, and it adds an array of new trinkets that can be quite powerful for their respective classes in certain cases, a new challenging roaming boss, and while the Endless Harvest is indeed a bit isolated it's incredibly fun to find parties that can shred through it with ease.

I'd second the disappointment with CoM, a complete snore. Roaming boss is cool, new quirks are OK, trinkets useless. Feels disjointed. But I suspect it may be just the thing for certain types of gamers. I like the dungeon crawl aspect a lot, CoM is combat oriented. If you love the combat and wish it would never end, go for CoM. I've seen far, far worse dlc in my days.

I loved shieldbreaker, it fit seamlessly and the class is a valuable addition without ever feeling OP.

CC is a mixed bag. FANTASTIC art direction – one of the more inspired takes on vampirism I've seen. The new mechanics can be very frustrating, since it forces the metagame. In the base game, you're under pressure in the dungeons only (tactics). Outside of the dungeons you can do what you want, when you want it. In CC, the game will also punish you for not adapting in the metagame aspect (strategy). This is where the bad reviews stem from: If you don't adapt to the curse, play according to the rules set up by the expansion, you will eventually be forced to do so.

I think CC is well worth it, but I wouldn't recommend it for the first playthrough. It's 2nd run material.

Honestly, the DLCs are quite excellent. Far from the ill conceived cashgrabs abound on Steam. The problem is that the base game is a THOUGH act to follow and disappointment is all but assured.

I hated CC for the affliction that is stupid hard to cure. And the mosquitos can show up outside the swamp if you enable that DLC. Not for beginners, that's for sure.

In addition to not having nightmares, you also get a 2 battle length buff every time you camp, which is basically half a free camping skill. It's minor, but it's nice.
