Good Strategy to Fight Fanatic?
So I’ll just say that I really love this game and I’ve been having a lot of fun with it recently. In my recent play, I’ve kind of adopted a policy of trying not to look stuff up (which I ignored for my first shambler fight yesterday, but that’s not important) and it’s definitely made the game a lot more exciting as I’m going through crimson court (because in an older playthrough I looked up almost everything except darkest dungeon quests, which ruined a lot of the surprise and challenge).
That being said, I tried my first fanatic fight yesterday, with veteran heroes on an apprentice quest because of the town event which removes level restrictions. I knew that the fight was similar to the hag where one of your heroes is taken from you but that’s about all I knew, so I went in with a slightly ineffective party which resulted in a dead hero. I’m assuming that I’ll have to fight him many more times to get ‘the cure’, but from what I saw I’m unsure of how to optimally prepare in future attempts. Any suggestions?

The best advice I can give is not to fight him like the hag. Unlike the Cauldron, the stake can be permanently destroyed and it keeps any damage taken when he puts a character on it. Once you destroy the stake, you have your entire party and he's not too bad.

Yup always destroy the pyre.

Destroying the Pyre makes one of his attacks hit harder, so keep that in mind. If you are not trying to destroy the Pyre, he will be moving a lot, so bringing heroes that can attack 3 and 4 position is a good idea. He's human, so BH will have a bonus dmg againts him. Both BH and Hellion (as usual) will be good for this fight

If you destroy the pyre you can just obliterate him faster, usually keep the pyre intact and you have to use 3 heroes, so his rage kind of balance out, but I prefer faster combat than making it length-unwise.

True, 4 heroes will speed things up, but still, if your party is in bad shape (from the standard fights during mission), then his "rage" attack (Fury of the righteous) will damage and stress everyone. I guess it all depends on who you have and who will be taken - in my last fight against him, he took the vestal on the pyre, leaving all 3 damage dealers (Hellion, BH, Flagellant) free to whack him. He died quickly, and they were still able to finish the mission without any problems. But it is a bit of a gamble, i agree, so its up to OP to decide, which way will work for him, as both have they pros and cons.

Oh, and Flagellant is also a great choice for this fight, his bleeds will work great with Fanatic's 3 attacks per round
How about you stop being a filthy vampire lover, you degenerate.
The Fanatic is doing god's work.

Alright, thanks everyone. I didn't actually try destroying the pyre cuz i had no idea it wouldn't come back like the hag's pot lol, that would've made it a lot easier

The pyre does not come back as the Hag's Cauldron. It is known.

Fanatic only has 99hp on apprentice. He's weak to stun and move. Bring bounty hunters if you just want to wreck him.

Destroying the pyre is definitely a good option. He has three moves per turn, and if you have a few heroes on Death's Door because they have been cooked to perfection already, it's not too hard for him to kill one, even a Flagellant.
