What is Max Character or Champion Level in Darkest Dungeon?

I have a Level 6 Cove dungeon and its continually killing my level 5 heroes. What is the max level? I think it could be 6, but I havent seen it documented anywhere if 6 is max or something higher?

Heroes max level until 6 only. From there, they won't gain any more exp.

As for dungeons:
Lvl 1 - Apperentice
Lvl 3 - Veteran
Lvl 5 - Champion
Lvl 6 - Darkest

In Radiant you can cheese it nearly indefinitely by sending the most massively OP characters you have against the lowest level dungeons you can find (or at least bring in one or more higher level characters to give the others a leg up). There's not much you can do to cheese Darkest though.
