Use stress healers and upgrade your buildings to heal stress better.
Going through the game with a single group is highly unlikely and I wouldn't advise it. That's why you can recruit several adventurers to fight while another group is recovering.
Medium and Long quest allow camping. Certaim heroes have strong stress healing camp skills. The Crusader and Jester are the best examples. Camp skills can be unlocked at the Survivalist in the Hamlet.
Some heroes have in battle stress heals. These can be unlocked in the Guild. It helps alleviate the stress. Just make sure you kill the stress dealers first to make stress heals more effective.
Keep your light above 75 for reduced stress damage. Light it up before encountering a battle.
You can also get stress heals by dealing crits (but those don't happen a lot, so don't fully rely on them...)
If you can reduce stress all the way down to 0 in adungeon it removes the affliction a character might be suffering from.
You also get stress heals from successfully disarming traps (8 points on low level dungeons, more on higher level quests).
As for mods I'm not sure if Super Heroes does anything to affect stress but it's basically easy mode so it'll probably help.
