Affliction is when the character was pushed to 100 stress and failed their virtue roll.
Upon a failed roll, it will splash a close up sceen of the character often cowering in fear or recoiling in pain bathed mostly in red with a word describing the Affliction they are suffering from:
Paranoid Selfish Irrational Fearful Hopeless Abusive Masochistic Rapturous
From that point on - their speech bubbles will be jagged, the text will be red. They will randomly bark out lines influenced by the type of affliction they suffer (from insults if Abusive to gibberish and nonsense if Irrational) and will have a chance to act or engage in actions out of your control.
and Affliction itself will be displayed as a small 'stress' symbol above the health bar.
While in dungeon - if you can reduce the heroes Stress down to 0, then the affliction will be removed... But that is very difficult early on.
Later on in the game with certain class and trinket combinations - you potentially can reduce an afflicted hero down to 0 stress while in a dungeon. The Jester spamming 'Inspiring Tune' removes a sizable portion of stress as well as provides reduced stress gain to the hero for a period of time - and can effectively remove affliction even without camping.
I made the mistake of thinking i had been dealt it like you can be dealt horror when infact as you point out, its a stress accumulation marker after reaching a set threshold.
Thanks for the help as i havent been playing it that long so as you can imagine , have made a few to many mistakes while finding my feet.
Its an amazing game, very addictive.
Im not concerned with the learning curve, i love that to. Its just so freshing to play a game thats actually a game and not some in 3 seconds plug and play AAA title (the well worn slipper).
Darkest dungeon is my kind of game and easily lands itself into my top ten games ever played and i just know when i get the hang of it that the dlcs and or any new darkest dungeon games will follow. Its a must own for any gamer, a critical purchase.
The Crimson Court really shakes up the grind that can become apparent in the later stages of the campaign, and I would say its a must own for any DD player.
However, if you don't enjoy the DLC, remember the steam refund policy!
