Do torches decrease with time or by movement?
Do torches decrease with time or by movement?
For instance, once after you finish a battle, if I was to stay in that room for a while, would my torch burn down?

Also something you might want to know if you havent figured it out yet, torches decrease more if you move to a tile where you havent been before.

Yeah, the lower your torch is the more chance you have to find extra loot, so you could lower your torch everytime before opening a chest. But this is very torch consuming if you plan to keep your torch level high (because lower torch also means stronger enemies). But you could safely lower your torch before opening the last chest (or whatever you loot the last in a dungeon) before finishing the quest.

Good point ty :) I was thinking as torch is only 75 coins that I would make a profit from better loot drops vs the torch price :)

You need 4 torch to go back at 100% light, so that 300 gold down the drain per chest.

I only lower torch for secret room chest or when i have finished the dungeon and only chest remaining on map, without monsters on the way.

Is there a way to lower torch manually outside of battle, or do you just have to plan ahead and not use them a few tials before the chest/walk around aimlessly until it goes out?

To be specific, each square on the map you move into decreases the torch. If it has already been "explored" your torch will last alot longer than if you are moving into new territory that is colored black instead of white squares.

Cheese tip: clear a dungeon without interacting with any curio or chest. After you completed it, blow the torch and go back to grab all these curios and stuff at 0 light. Never have money problems again.

Only do it if cheese smell doesn't bother you.

Do remember that this gives some extra stress dmg as you are moving in the dark. Also a big part of the loot is the loot after fights with mobs that are also affected by light level. Fighting in the dark is not advisable as the torch tells you what happens compared to high/low light

Stress damage you win that way is negligible. Food is actually the limiting factor, as you may run out when backtracking. You don't have to do any more fights (maybe 1-2 will spawn randomly depending on dungeon) if you completed the dungeon already.

This is just one of the cheesy strats that are possible, not different from fully healing in DD when fighting two rapturous cultists, or bring 4 antiquarian to Champion Dungeons to camp, get free trinkets, leave.

There are also some hero actions that reduce torchlight (e.g., Occultist, even in camp).
