I was yet only able to play lowest level dungeons on normal difficulty but this combo works for me quite good: Occultist/Houndmaster/Abomination/Hellion.
Normally i start a fight by stunning rank 1-3 and try to kill rank 4 (or 3) depending on enemy type with Occ and HM. Houndmaster is rank 3 for being able to stress heal. Also dont forget his stress healing camp ability. I dont know if this would work well in champion dungeons.
The jester gives you an amazing freedom on using the beast form thanks to his reliable stress heal.
Also, his bleeds are not to be understimated, specially with a bleed amulet or bloody dice on.
Not saying it's not doable, just I don't see as efficient as other parties.
Cheers
Went in with Houndmaster + Arbalest + Abomination + Hellion so I had good damages and enough heals but I stressed out quite fast on a medium duration mission, and didn't transform abomination often.
There are three stress healer's available to the abomination: the houndmaster, the jester, and the abomination himself. Because the abomination also stress out the rest of the party when transforming, it's a good idea to have a stress healer for the rest of the party. Either the jester or houndmaster would work for this, but the houndmaster might work a little better because his stress heal targets the whole party and he's, IMO, a stronger class overall compared to the jester. However, either one should work.
You will also want an HP healer. The vestal and flagellant are obviously out because both are religious, so that leaves the occultist as a strong healer (with the arballest, plague doctor and antiquarian as possible options for secondary healers). I recommend the occultist for an abomination group, not only as a healer, but also because, on medium and long quests, he has a +20% DMG buff that he can use for the abomination. The abomination also has a camping skill that self buffs for +25% DMG and his skill rake gives an additional +15% DMG buff when it's used. This makes the abomination great as a high damage AOE character when transformed. Meanwhile, when not transformed, the abomination works well as a stunner and can self heal when not doing that.
Only in tough fights i transform him. I guess if you want to transform him more often, you will really need a jester.
However, the class that complements abomination best is probably the jester, as he's able to easily compensate for all the stress damage caused by the abomination's transformations.
If you have enough dps you can always use camp buffs - Theraphy Dog + Helion's Revel ( it's great stress healing skill, and it's enough to use Med Herbs after that to cure debuff )
Also equip HM with Ancestor's Scroll for better stress heal.
I guess it depends to a degree on what dungeon you're going to and what skills of the Abomination you want to use/not use. For example, if you're only interested in his transformed skills, you could put him in first position and have both a houndmaster and a jester (or two houndmasters). But if you're in a place where you want him to be spamming blight/stun, then you can probably get away with not taking a stress healer, and you might consider bringing a plague doctor for stacking blight DoTs.
Er, but I'm no expert. If you want him in the second position, Hellion and MaA are good to have in first position.
Dude....
You can't get a Vestal with an abomination, unless it became possible with crimson court that I don't own yet.
For now I went with Houndmaster / Arbalest / Abomination / Highway man. This party seems to work quite well even if highway man isn't optimized and I'd probably have sloted a Hellion instead if I had one avalaible. Houndmaster is the key element I missed, as the stress heal and the very good combo with arbalest including a bonus but very handy prot debuff are quite usefull.
On the other hand, you have to heavily focus your houndmaster on stress healing, which mitigate the benefits of having the strong transformed abomination a lot.
Also this party is very vulnerable to shuffling, which is a decisive handicap on higher difficulties for what I now see. You still can pull it off by tanking with lot of self heals and take your time to reorganize your party but you'll take a beating doing so.
I dont usually transform it, but when I do I dont usually get to much stress
Jester, Occultist, Abomination and man-at-arms or bounty hunter, something that does good in front
