Yes, I noticed only the MaA and possibly Crusader are bona fide tanks. (Revenant is a mod tank that is superb in terms of balance and creativity; it's pretty much the only mod class I found worth using so far.) I know about the Tough Ring, but not the other. I will take a look.
I highly recommend since you like the Revenant, Scourge and Enigma, both are balanced well. Scourge can tank to an extent, is excellent in a blight party, and has high risk/high reward mechanics(as in if you don't do it right, you might get him killed lol). The Enigma has a very interesting system for his camping skill that creates fragments of power as well as his trinkets. There is limitations on the fragments that balance them and his skills are more balanced than they seem. In fact i would argue he is highly balanced due to needing to use one of his buffs if you want to get the bleed chance/stun chance/ or have him use dedicated heals. Also both of these are made by the same guy who made the Revenant. His Seer and Prodigy are...eh.
I also recommend taking a look at Actionjack's mods. The Trap Maker is well balanced and worth using in bleed/blight parties. I really enjoy the Martyr as a tank but he needs a bit of work.
If you go to the nexus, the Offering class is also quite a nice support tank. In fact she is only a support tank/debuffer , her dmg is bleh. But she is great in conjuction with other classes as front liners and her as a dedicated position 2. She has a pull, a guard/self heal, party wide low heal with blight/bleed cure, a movement skill, and a very nice debuff. The Offering redone on the steam workshop is a completely different version of her with different camping skills and skills in general. Both are worth looking at though.
I find Leper absolutely the worst class to use in general. As for tanking, I don't like to rely on buffs, given how fast-paced combat in this game remains.
Thanks for the recommendations. For now I'd like to light on custom classes though, since I haven't finished the normal game yet. I made an exception for the Revenant, because it is so superb in terms of design and balance. I have not tried the Scourge or the Enigma, but I have tried the Seer and the Prodigy from the same mod creator (Exaelus), and I find them both too unconventional for my taste. The problem with Exaelus' mods seems to be that he focused on being creative for creativity's sake and did not really consider how these classes practice fit in the context of the hardest game challenges with the current Darkest Dungeon roster. For instance, the Seer is all huge risk/huge reward, and I am not sure whether you want that on a healer - who needs to be reliable. For another, the Prodigy is difficult to use in practice, because literally all of his skills are movement use. So I decide not to even try the Scourge or the Enigma, since they both seemed even more unconventional than the Seer or the Prodigy.
