Character comics meaning/discussion + redemption achievement
1) Abomination: Was corrupted by eldrich powers and persecuted for that.
2) Highwayman:
3) Man-at-Arms: Lone survivor in some war? Seems too meaningless to me. Maybe I've missed something in this comic?
4) Leper: Prince or king that left his people and country to die a worthy death instead of slowly rotting on/near the throne
5) Arbalest: Became an orphan at a very early age and had to be on her own.
6) Antiquarian: Killer her master to steal his power and possibly did much more wrong towards this end.
7) Crusader: Left his family to wage war, but was changed by it and refused to come back to his loved ones (probably in order not to hurt them).
8) Occultist: Went to some eldrich place where many before him died but survived and gained power? Or am I missing something?
9) Grave Robber: Her husband squandered their fortune and died. The first step on her path was to dig his own remains to retrieve his jewelry.

NOW FOR THE SUPER-INTERESTING THEORY: Did Dismas (The Highwayman in the comic) kill Raynauld's son and wife?

And please elaborate on MAA and Occultist comics in case I'm missing smth. Thanks!

You are correct about MaA, just a war veteran.
OCC made a deal or pact with an eldritch entity inexchange for his powers.

No, the leper is just a guy with a desease which makes his body decade slowly, he maybe was one of the people who went on this path on his will.

The highway man basically attacked a carriage, realized he killed a woman and child by accident and i guess wanted to change his ways

There was a large explosion and then he was standing in the middle of a crater. I think he's got a personal grudge against the cannon. This is actually perfect since he's the single most helpful hero to have along for that particular boss fight.

Considering the ancestor speaks about the cannon like it's something special, i think it's likely that the brigand cannon we fight is probably the same one that killed all his fellow men

How is he useful? It deals insane DMG to all 4 heroes. His guard is useless, right?

He is kinda helpful to protect other heroes from the enemy reinforcements, but it's a much better strategy to keep killing the matchman with long range heroes and stunning the other brigands
I beat the cannon twice. You just pray you kill the matchman with your 2 ranged guys while at the same time trying not to die to reinforcements and slowly kill the cannon itself.
