On apprentice dungeons and bosses you can get by using pretty much any team that isn´t utterly dreadful.
But as you graduate to a Veteran you need to know what you are up against and plan accordingly, and even then there´s a chance of things going quite wrong.
Take Mr. Prince, on apprentice levels you can just nuke him down while healing, on veteran, you need to start planning around ways to decrease his damage and decrease the piggies stuns.
Thanks for the help, although i'm 99% sure that Swine Prince was still green (Apprentice) because my team were only lvl 1-2
And be happy that this happened fairly early in the game (since it was the swine*prince* it means it was the apprentice level version of him), so that you hadn't invested to much time in the game before getting put off with it. Much worse failing the resolve test in week 100+ when your lvl 6 party gets wiped by the RNG (it happens)
He's not really that difficult, but you might want to check the wiki to see how to fight him effectivly (DO NOT ATTACK WILBUR!!!) if you give it another go :-)
I'm glad I can retrieve trinkets, but do they cost extra money?
And the Shrieker is a quest you get fairly late game, it doesn't cost anything but he might kill a hero or two if you are unlucky. Gives you back 8 trinkets you have lost along the way
The trick to playing this game is that whenever bad stuff like this happens (and it will happen to almost everyone) is to take a break for a few days. Analyze what went wrong and come back with a vengeance :-)
My advice applies to the Swine King, one tier above. ^^
Sahlstroems advice is the one you´ll want right now. Sensible lad!
Also I think having to experiance some unpredictable turn-arounds - like Wilbur triggering rage - to gain experiance is part of charm DD has. If you are uncomfortable with nasty suprises, you can always check the wiki :).

Also, these kind of games are designed so that you learn from your mistakes and get better the more experienced you get. After 4.8 hours, you hardly know the ropes of this game.
In addition, in this game you will not have one single party with which you will rush through the game. You will need many heroes, and they will go on missions in different combinations.
For the bosses, you need to watch them and figure out how they are fighting and how you can best beat them. If you face them for the first time, of course you can't know what's the best way to fight and eventually beat them.
So in short: don't give up. Play on. Learn. Be smart and retreat when necessary.
I have learnt on the forums however that attacked Wilbur is a bad idea. Nowhere in the game was this suggested unfortunately.
Turns out the boss has -absurd- dodge-rate, near impossible to hit, managed to fight it off but not kill it, lost Dismas to multiple crits with bleed.
But you know what? Next time I´ll bring a bunch of Acc-buffs and trinkets, plus holy water and bandages for the bleed, and I´m going to eat soup out of it´s skull. ^^
Looking forward to it!
Of course the game doesn't spell it out for you: "Don't attack Wilbur". That would make no sense.
Doing this fight a few times, everyone will somehow figure it out sooner or later by himself.
And everyone has to go through that hardships, you are not the first.
I can even prove that for myself with the achievement "That'll do, pig..."(Lose a hero to Wilbur) :-)
