Swine Prince ruined this game for me
My party was amazing, probably not the best combination at all, but still extremely good. I had 2 tanky front liners both with 40% healing trinkets. The healer had a 20% extra heal trinket and other amazing trinkets for the rest.

I very easily cleared all the dungeon but the final room, I didn't even need to camp but I did anyway just to reduce stress. (Mainly my Crusador who only had 60-70)

Then the Swine Prince boss came and pretty much perma stunned me for the 6 or so rounds I survived for. I had armour upgrades (lvl 1 or 2) and skill upgrades and I think the most turns anyone in the party had was 2. Like 80% of the time my heroes were stunned, even though they get stun resist after being stunned, it didn't matter at all.

I couldn't even stun the boss because of 100% stun resist. Also he got almost as many crits as he did stuns. All heroes took around 8-9 damage and more like 13-14 if it was a crit.

It was basically a joke and I just completely quit the game. Not sure if I lost all my trinkets also (probably) and I don't think I can play again. A real shame since I was LOVING the game up until then. I understand I will lose some heroes along the way (I has to restart the campaign because I didn't do so good the first time) but I started to play well and had a great team.

I´m sorry for your loss sir, the transition to veteran dungeons, and tier 2 bosses is a stark increase in difficulty, a difficult but vital step in your path to the Darkest Dungeon.

On apprentice dungeons and bosses you can get by using pretty much any team that isn´t utterly dreadful.
But as you graduate to a Veteran you need to know what you are up against and plan accordingly, and even then there´s a chance of things going quite wrong.

Take Mr. Prince, on apprentice levels you can just nuke him down while healing, on veteran, you need to start planning around ways to decrease his damage and decrease the piggies stuns.

Thanks for the help, although i'm 99% sure that Swine Prince was still green (Apprentice) because my team were only lvl 1-2

Didi you attack his little pig friend, Wilbur? The swine prince goes berserk (and deals incredible amounts of damage if you do that). You can get the trinkets back later on from the Shrieker.

And be happy that this happened fairly early in the game (since it was the swine*prince* it means it was the apprentice level version of him), so that you hadn't invested to much time in the game before getting put off with it. Much worse failing the resolve test in week 100+ when your lvl 6 party gets wiped by the RNG (it happens)

He's not really that difficult, but you might want to check the wiki to see how to fight him effectivly (DO NOT ATTACK WILBUR!!!) if you give it another go :-)

Oh ok thanks, I did in fact attack Wilbur lol. It just seemed the right thing to do, always attack the low health annoying units. Still seemes a bit unfair that I lose because of a small mistake I had no idea about.

I'm glad I can retrieve trinkets, but do they cost extra money?

Happens to the best of us :-) Check out a few youtube videos to get your spirits back up (search for Ezekiels "Darkest Dungeon Rage" or Baertaffys "Worst Darkest Dungeon run ever"

And the Shrieker is a quest you get fairly late game, it doesn't cost anything but he might kill a hero or two if you are unlucky. Gives you back 8 trinkets you have lost along the way

The trick to playing this game is that whenever bad stuff like this happens (and it will happen to almost everyone) is to take a break for a few days. Analyze what went wrong and come back with a vengeance :-)

Oh! my bad, I gave you the completely wrong advice for the wrong boss! I apologize!
My advice applies to the Swine King, one tier above. ^^
Sahlstroems advice is the one you´ll want right now. Sensible lad!

Also remember retreat button is there. If battle with a boss goes awry, it's better to just run and get some extra stress than lose heroes. Most of the times you should manage to get out before anyone dies. I usually run as soon someone hits death door and I don't have reliable way to heal him ASAP. Seems to work in apprentice :).

Also I think having to experiance some unpredictable turn-arounds - like Wilbur triggering rage - to gain experiance is part of charm DD has. If you are uncomfortable with nasty suprises, you can always check the wiki :).

Sorry to maybe sound harsh, but you want to give up because you can't rush through the game and beat everything in your path? And then come to the forums and cry about it? The warning you get each time you start Darkest Dungeon is no joke. It is there for a reason. There will be setbacks. Missons will have to be abandoned. Heroes will die.
Also, these kind of games are designed so that you learn from your mistakes and get better the more experienced you get. After 4.8 hours, you hardly know the ropes of this game.

In addition, in this game you will not have one single party with which you will rush through the game. You will need many heroes, and they will go on missions in different combinations.
For the bosses, you need to watch them and figure out how they are fighting and how you can best beat them. If you face them for the first time, of course you can't know what's the best way to fight and eventually beat them.
So in short: don't give up. Play on. Learn. Be smart and retreat when necessary.

Not at all harsh and I always expect to lose heroes. The problem is that NO possible party could have beaten this boss due to every single turn 3 or 4 heroes get stunned. I couldn't do anything at all except watch my heroes die. I didn't learn anything or enjoy the experience at all.

I have learnt on the forums however that attacked Wilbur is a bad idea. Nowhere in the game was this suggested unfortunately.

Don't the heroes say something like "It's protecting the little swine" ?

It´s kind of part of the process, just fought The Shrieker for the first time yesterday, assembled a servicable damage dealing team annnnd...
Turns out the boss has -absurd- dodge-rate, near impossible to hit, managed to fight it off but not kill it, lost Dismas to multiple crits with bleed.
But you know what? Next time I´ll bring a bunch of Acc-buffs and trinkets, plus holy water and bandages for the bleed, and I´m going to eat soup out of it´s skull. ^^
Looking forward to it!

Lol I admire your optimism! I'm not far enough into the game to be able to make decisions about trinkets and such, but I might give it another try sometime :)

Of course the game doesn't spell it out for you: "Don't attack Wilbur". That would make no sense.
Doing this fight a few times, everyone will somehow figure it out sooner or later by himself.
And everyone has to go through that hardships, you are not the first.
I can even prove that for myself with the achievement "That'll do, pig..."(Lose a hero to Wilbur) :-)
