Monsters relentlessly attacking the vestral
Maybe it's just RNG working against me, but I've noticed monsters seeming to target the priest (which, in every game I've ever played, is something I'll do .. knock down the priest or wizard quick as you can).

Anyway, just fought 4 spiders in a corridor. You wouldn't expect tactics or anything from them, they're just animals .. but of the 8-10 attacks they made during the fight, every single one was made against the vestral.

Is that just RNG at work creating a false impression .. ie coincidence ? Or is there some kind of underlying logic at play ?

I think that the spiders really like to focus down a single target. I lost Dismas because of these weblaying ♥♥♥♥♥.

Was the vestal marked? what usually happens in this situation is that the first spider marks the character increasing the chance of all the other spiders to focus that target.
DarkGamer Feb 16, 2017 @ 11:15pm
both types of spiders deal x2 dmg vs mark

Aye, I´ve put a lot of hours in this games and as far as I know there´s no class preference in the enemies behaviour.
However as the fine folks above have pointed out, certain enemies will mark targets and other enemies will focus heavily on marked targets.

I occationally feel like enemies are targetting vulerable heroes regardless of class, but I think that might just be rage-bias.

Interesting stuff, thanks everybody.

If spiders are capable of marking a target, that must be what happened, and in every subsequent targeting, the additional likelihood + RNG was enough to ensure continuous attacks against the one target.

Hey are you guys playing RADIANT or the classic difficulty ? I'm on the classic game, but OMFG it feels like I'm going to really struggle to complete the game, unless it gets drastically easier after the first dozen weeks.

It does get much easier, first of all you become better at playing it, and second your heroes lvl up, get better trinkets and so on. Expect new difficulty spikes when you start doing veteran and champion missions, but this is not hard to complete at all. But the rng will still screw you over occasionally, and you will most likely sometimes bring totally hopless party compossions, just keep at it :-)

Word of caution though, champion dungeons -will- be difficult to begin with, at that point the missions assume that you´re mastered putting together good teams with effective synergies and good trinket set-ups. With that in mind, they are completely doable!

Trying out Radiant Mode m´self, I´ve played since early Early Access but never finished the game as I keep getting distracted by other games and then restart DD from scratch when i get back to it. ^^

Yes, this is the spider's MO. They're actually one of the most dangerous enemy groups in the game--the webbers have a Stun/Mark/Debuff ability, and all of them do double damage + blight + bonus crit chance against marked characters, AND their targeting frequency on that character skyrockets to something like 90%. A group of spiders can very easily snipe and kill a full strength character in one round if you don't deal with them carefully. If you encounter a group of four spiders, treat it as an immediate and serious threat to your party.

+1. And prioritise speed, the spiders are one of the worst groups to be out-sped by, but there are many other enemy types that can trigger dreadful synergies if your team is too slow to stop them.

Awesome tips & comments guys, thank you.

I fell in love with the tone of the game, it just makes me smile - the bleak, lovecraftian tone to it, the grim narrator and his tenuous sanity. Love it.

Seems like the community of players (if you're any representation) are generally mature and pleasant people too - quite often if you ask a question or pose a comment in Steam forums there'll be someone in there flaming or trolling or whatnot.

I prefer flaming to be in the form of oil splashed from a trap onto my hapless adventurers, torturously immolating them.

And as for trolls, I prefer them in the form of insidious beasts, lurking in the depths of the ... DARKEST DUNGEON.

Also, the little bastards have really high dodge. They're quite dangerous, especially at high difficulty.

You might notice as you keep playing that marks don't seem to always attract the attention of other critters. This is (probably?) in part because then getting marked would mean being dogpiled and murdered every time, but also because (also probably?) only certain critters go for the marked target.

The "tutorial" to this are the fungi in the weald. They can mess you up if you don't know the proper procedure to deal with them, and many players who're past that stage forget how nasty it feels when you first experience it.

Ha! Well put. We do get the occational rampant hater, but they usually don´t stick around, most of us persistant bastids are a pretty mellow bunch.

Oh! Addendum! The community can get kind of rude if visitors start ranting about Bad Mechanics or have a bad attitude in their discussions.
But well written posts posing questions or sharing stories like yours almost always get helpful friendly answers.

Excellent example, you´ll notice the mushroom-zombies always go straight for the marks, and deal horrifying damage to them, they have mark-synergies.
While the cultists that occationally turn up in such fights target anyone as usual and do not gain any advantages from striking marks, they lack these synergies.

I've been having the same thing happen, except with my jesters (which are my favorite class by the way, but I digress). In nearly no case were they marked, though.
Come to think of it, it was mostly cultist brawlers doing this and everyone in the party was at slightly low health. I guess the brawlers like to go for people with the lowest health? I could be completely 100% wrong.
Nevertheless, it always left me with a feeling of maybe some classes get attacked more than others. Although reading the thread says that's not the case, thank god.

I really hate when enemies focus one guy
