Are there any other games like this?
I have fallen in love with this game, and am struggling to find others similar. Anyone have recommendations for rogue like turn based games like DD?

Mordheim: City of the Damned.
Turn based, mandatory "Ironman".
Very deep leveling system.
Mission-based economy (like Darkest Dungeon).
I have spent about a thousand hours on Mordheim, yet have not exhausted all the content, partially because the Story Missions (think Darkest Dungeon) are hard as f**k.

Thanks for recommendation, checking it out now. Yeah the turnbased RPGish combat and progression is my favorite aspect of roguelikes, so this sounds up my alley.

Lol, are you serious? I think you are confused my friend, as the entire internet seems to recognize DD as rogue-like. You should probably get acquainted with the definition/specifications of rogue likes via a google search, because DD meets almost every criteria.

As someone who spent thousands of hours playing the original Rogue back in the 1980s, I must disagree. DD is as roguelike as it gets. Has the vibe of the original right down to the maddening RNG aspect.

Mordheim has already been mentioned.
Also take a look at Battle Brothers (that game can get you really addicted if you like this type of games).

Roguelike purists.. :P
You guys are like feminazis and moslim extremists, only less fun to argue with.
Dude is still bitter and bored after getting banned from the ToME forums. Just leave the poor soul be -- eventually his attention seeking will cross the threshold here and he'll move on elsewhere.

Troll feeding status: well-fed.

I'm not aware of anything really DD-like. Even mechanically similar games tend to be way off in terms of atmosphere, and vice-versa.

E.g. binding of isaac is a roguelike with the same decline and fall atmosphere, but isn't an RPG. XCOM has similar heavily-random mission-and-squad-based gameplay with levelling and permadeath, but is ascent themed. Halcyon 6 is a party-and-turn-based RPG with an upgradeable town, but isn't random and is ascent themed.

DD's pack of fallen heroes who can go even further insane isn't a thing. (Yet. Look for imitators soon, though I'm betting their artists will be terrible.) As far as I'm aware, DD's position-based skill system is unique.

itt the entire internet = 1 small echo chamber

DD doesn't hold water as a roguelike even if you only used the berlin interpretation, possibly the worst definition of "roguelike" on the internet

Maybe they should have used ASCII instead of pouring all their money into muh aesthetics, then there might be a good game here instead of unpolished 50 hours of the same nonexistent difficulty grind.

Someone bring a straight-jacket.

I was sucked in to Battle Brothers for long while..... Damn those Orc Warlords!

Deep Sky Derelicts is a game in development and the mechanics seem pretty similar to Darkest Dungeon. It's on steam right now and is going to be released in 2018.

BattleBrothers is great. I recommend Rimworld for strategy fans too.

Monster's Den: Book of Dread. I think it is likely the developers of DD took a very large amount of inspiration for their game from the Monster's Den series of games.
