As for advice: when underequiped (bursting not an option), Stuns, heals and Stress heals.
I routinely bring a Resolve 0 Hero to train in Champion Dungeons out of necessity. It is a good idea to Guard them.
I would lose money but it would come back whilst using the low levels.
Level 3 weapons/armor/skills is a good idea. Here's maybe a helpful way of thinking about it:
A hero with level 3 equipment/skills is about as good in a Veteran dungeon as a level 1 hero is in Apprentice.
A hero with level 4 equipment/skills is about as good in a Veteran dungeon as a level 2 hero is in Apprentice.
A hero with level 1/2 equipment/skills is much worse in a Veteran dungeon than a level 1 hero in Apprentice.
If you don't have level 3, it's probably best to hold off visiting Veteran level until you can do more upgrades. If you have a reasonably diverse party (~16 heroes or more), this shouldn't really be a huge liability. Heirloom exchange is great. Definitely worth using.
Possible, but I´d say stick to the medium Dungeons with those Resolve 3 Heroes. More loot, including those Heirlooms, and one stays in positive income.
But you seem more short on cash. So perhaps you were keeping too many heirlooms and not enough cash. Or perhaps spending too much at the stress houses.
If you're not doing any of that, then make your second team fund the upgrades of your first team. Make the third team fund the upgrades on the second team, and so on. Finally the first team uses the extra veteran proceeds to upgrade the lower tier teams.
This also leads to upgrading the stagecoach to start bringing in pre leveled heroes which saves a ton of money.
