Mod to add more positions to the Party and Enemies
Okay,

I've been contemplating getting this game, but I've noticed something in the videos I've been watching. To be successful, it seems like you really need to always have a Vestal, Jester and some sort of Tank (Hellion, Leper or Crusader). That really only leaves 1 position open to have some other support class (Plague Doctor, Occultist) or ranged class (Highwayman, Arbalest) etc. I think it would be more challenging to add a 5th and 6th position to the party as well as a 5th position for the enemies (so as to not make it too easy). I'm assuming that a Hex Editor could be used to change the number of positions in the party and enemy lineups. However, it seems like the game might be hard-coded (for whatever reason) to only have 4 posiitions. Does anyone have any experience modding the game to see if it will accept more positions? Will it crash the game to add a 5th and 6th position? Can the class abilities be modified to accept the new positions if you can add more party slots?

If you know what you are doing you can be sucessful with almost any party. Restrictions as you describe them dont exist.
Okay, thanks for not answering my question....

Well, it would break the game on multiple levels and certainly isnt worth the effort if it were somehow possible to make it work since it isnt necessary at all, as i pointed out.
Actually, no you did not. Again, not answering my question....

And thus such a change is unnecessary.
Okay, I'm going to ask you to kindly stop "replying"....

OP, no Sir francis is telling you that such a change would only harm the game experience we all enjoy.

However, you can try to tinker with the party and enemy position with an hex editor if that's your thing but please don't enforce your ideas onto us.

and being toxic won't help either.
"OP, no Sir francis is telling you that such a change would only harm the game experience we all enjoy."

Irrelevant. I was not asking about why YOU enjoy it.

"However, you can try to tinker with the party and enemy position with an hex editor if that's your thing but please don't enforce your ideas onto us."

Wow, please tell me where I was saying that the Devs have to change this to be a 6-character group? I asked if someone else had done a mod for it.

"and being toxic won't help either."

You have got to be kidding me....

Search the workshop maybe it is already around and otherwise maybe look into making a mod yourself. However vestal in first position proven me she can do it decently. And jester are hardly needed if you target the right ones.

But keep in Mind a fifth position would also mess with the skills as they suddenly need to cover an extra slot. And i believe such things are more hardcoded. Unsure tho

well you are "contemplating on getting this game" but according to some videos, the fact that the fights in this game revolve around a 4 slot party composition seems to bother you more that it should.

then you are "asking" the community (which includes modder but also devs) to make a mod that add two more slots to the party and one more to the enemy's party. If that demand can not be fullfilled, you won't buy the game.

That's pretty much enforcing someone to do something for your own good instead of concentrating on the needs of the community which is selfish and shouldnot be taken into consideration.

However you are free to make your own mod if you have the technical skills to do so and, why not, post it on the workshop for other to enjoy.

And yes, you are being toxic, radioactive even.
Seriously, reading comprehension is a fundamental skill.I have to ask, is English your first language? I wasn't asking for someone to make a mod. I was asking if someone HAD made a mod.....

I have made and maintained a mod (only modified some plain-text-file codes, so don't expect much from me), but haven't seen a line of code defining the 4-hero limit. Perhaps it might be possible with a more advanced editor and programming skills, but as far as I know, nobody has even tried it.

...Is it close enough to your expected answer?

(edit:) It should be okay to avoid a game you're sure you cannot enjoy much. Save your money and time for what you really want.

Probably.

I've modded a bit - while I've not checked the game code, I'm pretty sure the player and enemy party sizes are hardcoded judging from what's in the data files. Even if things are as simple as extending an array 1-2 places, there's a lot of side effects that would take lots of extra work.
-Two more characters wouldn't fit on the screen. Zooming things out would make a lot of room backgrounds not cover the entire screen, so those would also need reworking. GUI elements might not match up either (since they stay the same size even when the screen is zoomed in) so those would probably need to be redone from scratch... and we're talking both code and graphics here.
-Every single support skill would need to be reworked so they can target allies in the new back rows, and a lot of attacks would need to be fixed up so they can be USED from those new back ranks. And let's not forget about enemy attacks either.
-Suddenly spreading stress and damage out over 50% more characters could seriously mess with the game's balance, and since a stressed-out party easily trigger each other, this could make the game much harder in some aspects.
-The game will softlock if there's not enough heroes for a full party, and the stagecoach is set up so there's always at least FOUR available heroes... not "at least 6".

There's probably more stuff but TLDR even if it's TECHNICALLY possible to add more party members, it's not as simple as it sounds to make it work in practice.
