Multiplayer CD key feature

Uh yeah, so I want to give a try at multiplayer to experience what the first CoD multiplayer would be like, only one small issue.

I (think) I'm required to enter a CD key to play multiplayer, because when I go to the server list, there are absolutely no servers whatsoever. So are there any workarounds or am I screwed just because I bought a digital version of the game as CD copies are quite scarce (and expensive and unpatched, etc) ?

I'm not sure how to solve this because the game should automatically input it into your game when you first load the game for the first time.

What a shame. Guess this game's multiplayer is dead since I don't find any servers.

It a game that's 20 yrs old this yr. Those servers haven't been up in like 15 of the yrs. Give some love to the single player mode. Still fun.

Yeah, I loved the singleplayer, but I always had wondered what multiplayer would've been like. Don't get me wrong, the missions are mostly solid and the highest difficulty I've beaten the game on as of now is hardened, but multiplayer is a whole different game.

Are you unable to find servers on CoD1 or on UO? In any case, the servers are there and are still available; the game is not dead.

I click on the find game button but there are no servers that I can see

Nevermind, refreshed the list and there's a whole list of servers.

Do you know why 1.1 is more active? Can you give a list of reasons?

(by the way, I'm not really the type of person to do 3rd party downloads as they can be quite dangerous to computers at times)

Because a lot of people never updated past the first patch, I use that download myself and its safe if you want a more active version of the game.

The master server isn’t up so you’ll have to use the tilde key (it looks like this: ~) and enter a server IP

O yea and because people probably never updated the game

My disc copy came with 1.3, so I decided to move up to 1.5

i actually found a (slightly but not too much) modded multiplayer server with mechanics like bleeding and cooking grenades but nothing stupid like sprinting. There were very few players on, but me and this guy I met had a sniper battle in mp_neuville. Oh, and I had some amazing beginner's luck in mp_carentan with the thompson.

The only active server I know of is BM for 1.5
