Call of Duty (2003)

Call of Duty (2003)

Buffer overrun fix for BOTH Call of Duty and United Offensive!
I FOUND A FIX FOR BOTH Call of Duty and United Offensive at the same time!

For reference, the folders I talk about are in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common"

1. Copy the entire Call of Duty folder to your desktop.

2. Rename it "Call of Duty United Offensive"

3. In the folder, rename "CoDUOSP" as "mohaa", make sure that the Call of Duty single player is the default "CoDSP".

4. Drag the folder from your desktop back into "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common". It should be there along with your other game folders and the original Call of Duty folder.

5. Go into the original Call of Duty folder and rename "CoDSP" to "mohaa". The United Offensive singleplayer should stay as "CoDUOSP" in this folder.

6. There should be a "United Offensive" folder and a "Call of Duty" folder.

7. Go into your Steam library. Click "add a game", "add a non-steam game" and then click "browse" on the window that pops up.

8. Go to the Call of Duty folder and click "mohaa" open it into the window.

9. Go to the new "United Offensive" folder, and click that "mohaa" and open it in the window.

10. Both "mohaa"s should have the boxes beside them checked. Click "add selected programs" and they should both be in your Steam library. Go to properties for both and rename them to something more fitting like "Call of Duty" and "Call of Duty: United Offensive"

11. FOR DESKTOP SHORTCUTS: The regular shortcuts still don't work! Go into Steam and make a new desktop shortcut for each of the new "mohaa" versions. Delete the old shortcuts.

If you did this correctly, there should be a folder for Call of Duty and another for United Offensive. In the Call of Duty folder, the singleplayer .exe for Call of Duty should be "mohaa". In the United Offensive folder, the singleplayer .exe for Unted Offensive should be "mohaa". Both "mohaa"s should have shortcuts in Steam, and from there shortcuts to the desktop, and should launch from the shortcuts and work.

EDIT 1: MULTIPLAYER FIX

If you want multiplayer in either game, do this:

IF YOU WANT BOTH MULTIPLAYERS, DO THESE STEPS FOR BOTH GAMES!

1. Copy the original Call of Duty folder again.

2. Rename it "United Offensive Multiplayer" or "Call of Duty Multiplayer" for whichever one you want to play.

3. Go into the folder, make sure the Call of Duty singleplayer .exe (which should be "mohaa" if you followed the steps above) is named "CoDSP". Rename the Multiplayer .exe of whichever you want to play ("CoDMP" for Call of Duty, "CoDUOMP" for United Offensive) to "mohaa" like you did earlier.

4. Drag the folder back into your "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common". You should now have a Call of Duty folder, a United Offensive folder, and a Call of Duty/United Offensive Multiplayer folder. Inside the Multiplayer folder, make sure the singleplayer .exe's have their default names, and the name of whichever multiplayer you want to play is "mohaa".

5. Go into your Steam library and add the "mohaa" from the mutiplayer folder as a non-steam game like you did for singleplayer in the steps above. Rename it to Call of Duty Multiplayer or United Offensive Multiplayer, and then make a shortcut of it on your desktop. Launch the game from here from now on.

If you did all these steps right, you should have a Call of Duty folder, a Call of Duty United Offensive folder, and if you want them, folders for both Call of Duty Multiplayer and Call of Duty United Offensive Mutiplayer. Inside each the .exe that corresponds to the folder should be named "mohaa", each "mohaa" should have a Steam shortcut, and there should be desktop shortcuts of each of the "mohaa" shortcuts in Steam. The singleplayers and multiplayers for both games should work now.

Actually, there are still a few full servers for United Offensive, on patch 1.51, that is.
If you want to play multiplayer, then make another copy of the folder, name it "OU Multiplayer" or something, do everything the same but rename "CoDUOMP" as "mohaa", then add the game to steam just like the others. You can do the same for the original Call of Duty's mutiplayer as well. I haven't tested them yet, but they should probably work if you do it right.

Does cod 2 have same problem if so is it same thing but for cod 2
I don't think CoD 2 has the same problem, its newer and made for more modern systems. If anyone does get a buffer overrun error, then I guess they could try the same thing.

It works, but only if I launch the game from my steam library. Thanks so much, man!

Right click the game in steam and create a desktop shortcut, it will now launch through Steam from your desktop.
