Re-rolling the map

I'm at a point where I just beat the Grim Reaper and thought, okay, if I want the armor, I'm gonna have to beat him quite a few times. But only the first Pumpkin island gives the guaranteed cursed doll (the house with the secret railway), so I did one and re-rolled the map.... and did not get another pumpkin island with 8 compasses.

Am I unlucky? Do they simply not spawn anymore? Where can I get more compasses other than paying 5 gold to the ship guy (I'm always broke trying to reforge my weapons with good modifiers) ?

you are just unlucky sadly, and for compasses you can use the Lucky Moustache and farm enemies as they are like the map charts just random drops form any enemy, also fishing is currently the best way to farm money with 4 fish being worth 1 gold.

I don't really get the fishing here. I usually always play the fishing minigames but for some reason it seems incredibly obtuse trying to hook the fish.

do you have the fishing accessories form the fisherman? he sells 3 of them ,that you can then combine, and if you buy another set, you can have the Fishing Kit (the combination) and all 3 components at the same time for double the effects. makes the minigame a lot easier, though potentially repetitive to the hand with pretty much being only A and D spam

You can craft the item to resummon the Grim Reaper boss by simply farming enemies on the pumpkin island. Its something like 20 needles and 20 dolls and then have the Skeleton NPC craft it for you.
