What's with all the controversy surrounding Janey?
Everywhere I go, there seems to be people hating a perfectly likeable character. What's wrong with her anyway, her being a lesbian or something?

Would you stop saying you're gay... You've said it so much that it's all that makes you here with no other substance.

"The *gay* guy that is conveniently gay and tells you he's gay dozens of times to help make his point on disliking Janey but no one buys it."

We get it you're gay yet you still throw it out in nearly every post.

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM That isn't subtle at all.

Hypocritical right there.

I'm not a character in a game, and people brought up it had something to do with people being homophobic. Which isn't the case. But thankyou for proving my point without even realizing you where.

So Janey is the "annoying and proactively gay" character. There is just as much substance to Janey as there is to Moxxi.
You want me to list some things?

It's not so much a problem specific to Janey as it is a problem concerning Borderlands humor and writing relying heavily on sexual innuendo or hamfisted sex jokes. It's only more noticable or obnoxious in relation to Janey because most of us are so conditioned and used to heterosexual jokes and references that the homosexual ones stick out and get people to realize the issue somewhat. Like one of the earlier posters said, Hammerlock is an example of a well-written queer character, in that he isn't defined by his sexuality or sexual nature, his sexuality is simply a facet that we get to know about him and nothing more, as it should be for most characters. Janey's constant stream of sexual jokes and conversation felt forced and uninteresting.

Considering solely what we've seen in the pre sequel and none of the other games.

Amount of writing:
-----
Sir Hammerlock: 1 side mission to kidnap a pair of young threshers.
Janey Springs: Portions of the main campaign, and several side missions.

Content of the writing:
-----
Sir Hammerlock:
- British accent.
- Probably a hunter.
- Gay.

Janey Springs:
- Lesbian.
- Mechanic?
- Mother murdered by kraggons.
- Likes lasers.

Notice that Hammerlock has a MUCH smaller role in the game, and yet, somehow, we learn just as much about him as we do about Janey. AND HE'S ON A DIFFERENT PLANET.

Well we do learn that Athena and Janey hook up in TVHM so... there's that? :)

Yep.

Unintended self-parody by blueangel. Pretty funny, actually.

I know while playing wilhelm I got to hear alot of her sexual comments just for her to follow up with "that's not meant towards you." or "no offence, I don't like men." which can be annoying but over all, I just tuned it out.

Have you considered that some of the people who detest the way that they represented Janey in the game do so BECAUSE they're gay and don't enjoy LGBT character and their sexuality being shoved in the players face? Almost as if its insulting that we can't just be treated like any other character, hint hint, nudge nudge, every gay character in BL2.

If they just treated the gay characters in the pre squeal the same way that they did in BL2 no one would have cared, just like no one did or does about Hammerlock, Moxxie, Scooter, ect.

I obviously don't have a problem with gay characters in games, I love them, when I played through that one side mission in BL2 and found out that Hammerlock was gay I thought it was cute (even if his ex-boyfriend was a loudmouthed douchebag) and it made me feel a little bit closer to him. On the other hand, when you absolutely shove it in my face, and keep referencing back to it with cringy jokes, its just annoying, it just feels like a bunch of straight people in a writing room thinking "how can we pander to the millennials". Janey's sexuality being so closely tied to her character just felt really forced, and allot of her "jokes" were very cringy, they just weren't written that well.

What really irks me how cute her character could've been if she was just written a little bit differently, especially her relationship with Athena.

Being such a predominant character in the story and gay, it would have been awesome if she was written like a normal lesbian human being with the normal borderlands twist. It almost felt like she was singled out and used to push some agenda, to me (and it seems like allot of other gay folks) it really sucks that that happened to a gay character who is so prevalent in the story, especially when her character could have been so good.
