I just autorun DS4Tool on Windows boot and let it start minimized. I tried a lot of things but was ultimately unsuccessful trying to get the PS4 controller to work without an external tool. It runs fine with that tool, though.

DS4Windows: http://forums.pcsx2.net/Thread-DS4Windows-Another-fork-another-thread. It's actively being developed and works almost perfeclty. Macros, touchpad support, the features are pretty robust.

Version 1.5something of DS4Windows is pretty nice.

I was using an OUYA bluetooth controller prior to purchasing a USB XBOX 360 controller, which tends to work natively with most games. The OUYA setup is similar to the PS4 setup, in that you need to use an external program to get full functionality of the controller.

Microsoft and SONY, I believe, do their best to make it difficult to use their peripherals cross-platform. I think it is a disservice to the consumer, but I've never really been a capitalist.

Sorry about the bad news...

DS4 is the best option, though.
