How to play Athena correctly?

This is my first Borderlands game and I'm really fascinated by the game's mechanics and leveling tree (you name it). And I've chosen Athena 'cuz I like melee, but I can't find any melee weapons for her and I'm now wondering at what level can I use Melee weapons for her? If it even exists now.. I'm currently level 13.

Look for roid shields, of course. There are a few legendary roid shields that do ludicrious amounts of damage. Like, gamebreaking amounts. Like, pre-patch Bee from BL2 level of ridiculousness.

To put it in perspective, a purple the same level as a Shooting Star (Highest roid damage shield) would be around 1/20th the roid damage if you're lucky. I used a shooting Star to solo the Raid Boss in playthrough 1,

There's raid bosses? Today I learned. Yes. I know, I'm new.
But how do I find the bosses once im max leveled? I never understood the concept of this weapon arsenal either.

Don't worry, the raid boss is always a mission first, except in BL2, where some are not missions.

Athena has the most overpowered build at the momoent. If you spec all the way down the middle tree skipping anything to do with shields and getting every melee boost, then try and find a roid shield, a class mod that boosts melee damage and a gun with a bayonet attachment.
Athena at level 50 with the legendary shootingstar Shield can one hit most bosses.
