TVH Mode: Bullet sponge much?
So I just finished my 2nd runthrough of the story with Fragtrap, now I'm going to True Vault Hunter Mode and I'm at Deadlift's boss fight. So far, the creatures seem like bullet sponges. They don't really have any new abilities, they just take forever to kill. I've never really liked that in video games. It just seems like a cop out.

Yeah, ridiculous HP is Borderlands' way of making things "difficult". As I always say, there are youtube vids of people killing bosses blindfolded (it just takes longer), so yeah, there's your difficulty.

However, BL:TPS seems much better than BL2 when it comes to scaling, so if you really wanna get mad at bulletsponges, play BL2. BL:TPS isn't that bad. Really.

EDIT: Which reminds me, yesterday while playing I realized that one of the better-designed enemies are stalkers. They're a PITA to fight (some of them, at least, especially poison stalkers) without having 1048576 derpzillions of HP.

Yeah there are lots of enemies in BL2 especially that are challenging in a good way. Stalkers are a great example. Also, any of the archer mobs in the Tiny Tina's DLC can ruin your day when they're in a group, but they generally melt when you can get some good shots in. I'm talking mainly about TVHM.

Rabid stalkers are one of the most hated enemies out there in BL2. Other stalkers are fine, but these ones...

Yeah they're annoying as hell because they're relentless and they stick to you like glue. It's hard to get any distance. I've only played as Axton though, so his turret helps a lot with rabid stalkers, and animal enemies in general.

Duh. I never saw anything bullet spongy in TVHM but a raid boss. Change your gear often. TVHM was always gear dependent.
Cephalopod 2014 年 10 月 28 日 上午 9:52
TVHM is easy, really. UVHM is the real challenge. And by the way: You need slag in Borderlands 2 UVHM, believe me, you will love slag.

I guess, since TPS doesn't contain slag to use, cryo will be the new Slag... enemies gettin massive crits while "on ice" :D:

If TPS gets UVHM, cryo will be the new slag, definitely. UVHM is over the top sometimes, you need good gear, always.

But you get only crap from enemies, that's the big - on UVHM in BL2

This game's TVHM is far better than BL2's. The only thing that is remotely close to a bullet sponge are badass outlaws, and they're dead in like 3 seconds if you freeze > Crit them. Maybe I'm just too used to OP8 on BL2 but honestly this game feels easier than vanilla skyrim by comparison.
Cephalopod 2014 年 10 月 28 日 上午 10:15
UVHM in BL:TPS will be MUCH easier than BL2s with cryo. First of all: Enemies are solid frozen, they can't harm you and seond:they get massive crits while frozen :D

I just started UVHM on Borderlands 2 and I'm finding it to be pretty absurd. I'm running into regular mobs like marauders who I have to empty 2 full clips from my corrosive conference call in order to kill. I'm using slag, but some of these guys just have as much health as a boss should. It's pretty ridiculous. Fighting my way to Sanctuary felt like it should be the END of a game, not the very beginning. I think I fired more rounds in one single firefight than have been fired in all the wars in human history.

Yep, exactly. First off UVHM is designed to be played in co-op mode, running through it solo is a very very tough thing to do because of the insane amount of HP the enemies have compared to yourself. Notice how all of your shields and HP are down to zero after one or two shots yet you shoot the enemies and it seems like nothing happens lol.

Second, it's all about the right gear. Slag weapons + health generating weapons + heavy explosive weapons i.e.: Grognozzle which will keep your health at normal levels and slag enemies as well and a double unkempt herald for massive explosive damage. Keep a fast reloading launcher for when your are at last breath for second wind and make sure to use legendary class mods. This is just an example...I'm sure tons of people have better advice but that is the real trick to success on UVHM. Partners and the right gear ;)

Also....UVHM should be looked at very differently than TVHM and prior. What I mean by that (and this is just me, speaking for myself only) I used to just randomly assign points to my skill tree and that was that. Mostly health heavy, etc. All of that I threw out the window after researching the on the net. Character builds are huge and there are many different ones depending on what enemy you are fighting, what boss, etc. At UVHM you will have tons of money as you go along and will be doing respecs. You will see how certain attributes in your skill tree will amplify certain weapons (all that madness you never paid much attention to will now come in handy in UVHM)

If you watch videos of all those level 72 guys they sound like scientists when describing their character builds in that every single point has a purpose.

Don't want to make this crazy but you asked lol
Elvis II 2014 年 10 月 28 日 上午 11:43
I'm pretty happy with my build. I have not been assigning points at random. I planned where I wanted to go with it and I'm using class mods and relics that compliment it. I'm sure there are ways I could better optimize my build and there's stuff I could do like farming for certain weapons that would make it easier to get through it, but that's not really how I like to play. I kind of like getting shafted by the loot system so often. It adds a bit of drama when I'm carrying around a gun 10 levels under me because I simply haven't found a better one yet.

I'm sure I'll start finding better gear as I go through it, so I'm not too bothered about it, but I do think bullet sponge gameplay is lame. I always have hated it.

Well you pretty much answered your own question then lol. UVHM solo wiith non descript 10 levels old gear = fast death lol
Elvis II 2014 年 10 月 28 日 下午 12:10
Well I'm just using what the game gives me. I'm definitely not going to spend an hour farming the same spot or the same boss for the perfect shield or whatever. If I start to feel that it's necessary to do that in order to complete UVHM, then I'll just stop playing it. Same with playing co-op.. I just don't have any interest in it.
