Let down by poor voice acting!
Let me start by saying, I am a huge Borderlands and Borderlands 2 fan and have racked up enough game play hours to be embarrassed enough to hide it from my wife. So my disappointment was soul destroying when finally playing the much awaited Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel only to hear what are clearly NOT professional voice actors!
The emotions spoken don't fit with the situation. It sounds like it was created for a child audience with childish humour. I also get the impression that it was only a handful of people trying to putting on a variety of accents for different character. These people are not professional voice actors and you can tell!

There are moments when characters from the original series have spoken lines. When this happens, you can hear the stark contrast between the pros. This is not down to the Australian accent. I actually think that the concept to have an Australian sounding moon quite novel... but guys, make sure you do it right!

Strangely, I feel insulted that they think this is acceptable. It completely removes me (the player) from being immersed in the world. Its so poor that it has rendered me incapable of expression my true upset with words. I strongly recommend that this game gets patched with real voice actors. I know its unlikely, but I need to put it out there.

I also love borderlands, they are in fact my all time favorite games, including this one. I had no iussues with the voice acting in this game and i listen carefully to everything the npc`s says and i have no issues at all.

And please stop talking about thing you have no idea about, i am not beeing rude iam just telling you to stop stating facts based on your opinion of something. You are not qualified to tell of someone is a professional voice actor or not. Maybe this is exactly what they aimed for ? But it just so happend that you dident like it as much as you did in borderlands 1 and 2 ?

And iam pretty sure that Borderlands 2 was and is a much bigger title then this game and that they had way more resources behind the creation of borderlands 2 then they did on pre-sequel.

But in the future stop stating facts when you dont really know them. You have an opinion on something and that is all good but dont speak of it as the Truth

i just saw this: Strangely, I feel insulted that they think this is acceptable.

Are you really that bold ? When you write things like this you sound really dumb, because no one forced you to buy the game, no one forces you to play it. You cant expect that every single game you buy and play meets your goals 100% all the time. Yes you waited for this game like a kid waits for X-mas but sometimes santa brings you socks instead of racecars and dirtbikes. I have bought games i have waitied for, i have waited for games since they first were anounced, 2-4 years later at launch date i find out the game was ♥♥♥♥ ( In my opinion ). But still i know there are thousand of players out there that loves the game, but bad luck for me that this just dident hit my magic spot. Get used to it.

I'm sorry that vocalising my opinion angered you Eriksen. You are right, I should have mentioned the sources for the facts, so I will do so here.
My 'facts' were based on a Kotaku interview with 2k Australia in which they said "...they used their own voices as placeholders.".

"I feel insulted that they think this is acceptable" yes, I am really that bold. If I pay for a product and use it, then I a expect to be allowed to voice an opinion on it. I know that this is completely my opinion and others will differ, so at no point did I advise anyone against buying it.
By all mean feel free to disagree with me, that's what makes forums interesting. But please don't make it a direct attack on my personality, stating I am 'dumb', it's non-constructive and unnecessary.

P.s. I'm sorry to hear you had a disappointing X-mas.

Sounds fine to me. Maybe you just have unreasonable expectations and perceive accented speech as lower quality for no justifiable reason.

What quality is missing in the acting that is present in the past game? You don't say. All you said is that that's better and this is worse.

What the hell is a professional voice actor anyway? What do they do differently, exactly?

Maybe it is an unreasonable expectation, I hope not. The characters that appear in the previous games; Jack, Lilith, Mordecai, etc... are voice by professional actors, but the new characters in the Pre-Sequel aren't. I get the feeling that they are reading straight from a script, the true underlying emotion of the character seem to be lost. This is something that I think a professional actor brings to the table.
Zadkiel 2014 年 10 月 21 日 上午 4:53
I found the voice acting to be highly variable, for the most part it was adequate, but a few times it jarred.

None more so than David Pickle. it's hard to do Cockney so badly that it makes ♥♥♥♥ Van ♥♥♥♥'s character in Mary Poppins sound good, but he manages it.
Zadkiel 2014 年 10 月 21 日 上午 4:54
Oh god, it censored his name. That's hilarious.

Prove your assertion that these are not professional actors.
Cite examples of this "poor voice acting".

If you ever want to make suggestions in the hopes that they are fulfilled, Steam forums are not the place to do it. Some devs do hang out on Steam and are acitve in the community. Neither Gearbox or 2K are those kind of devs. Try heading over to the official Borderlands forums.

I see no proof just a lot of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about Aussie accents.

Oh no. Somewhere in space that isn't American. Whatever shall we do.
If you read the whole article, is says "...they used their own voices as placeholders.".
At the end of development they decided to stick with their own voices. In my own opinion I thought there was a distinct difference in quality of 'voice acting' compared to those of the professionals who voice the main characters (Jack, Lilith, etc...).
It has nothing to do with the fact they're Australian (that's a refreshing change), just acting quality.

If you read the post beyond what you felt you needed to validate your rage you'd have seen:

“We kinda pushed it a bit,” admits Tony Lawrence, 2K Australia’s General Manager. “It’s more the vernacular of a Crocodile Dundee, full on Australia.”

In other words it was done deliberatly, and frankly i agree with 2K Texas, it worked really well.

Shame the rest of the game was a let down though lol

..... they used their own voices as placeholders, Gearbox heard them and said "we love the moon being Australian!" so they got Australian voice actors when they had originally intended to get American ones.
"Did you bother to read beyond that sentence?

"so they got Australian voice actors when they had originally intended to get American ones." Nowhere does it say that in the article.
It backs up my point. They didn't then get Australian voice actors to redo it, they stuck with 2K's place holders. The people that worked on the game did the voices of the new characters.
HellSpite 2014 年 10 月 21 日 上午 5:50
Maybe we both got something different from the article and I apologise if I misread it, as its the main point supporting my opinion :) However, I think you are missing my point. "The team went into the recording booth" ..not professional voice actors. I have no issue with the accents being Australian or American. I just don't think the 2K team did a good enough job as a professional voice actor would. Likewise, I wouldn't ask a professional voice actor to do a level designers job or UV texture a NPC.

Isn't it already enough about the voice acting story? Jesus... people cry about everything.
