This also hold down the button, don't just tap it.
1) Oz kit equiped
2) O2 in the tank
3) Jump high enough into the air then hold down crouch till you hit the ground.
though the imput is not fruitless food for thought
I will offer up my findings
you do, need the O2 tank in equipment
you DO NOT need O2 in the tank to perform the butt slam
you DO NOT need to HOLD the button down
what you do need (and what the damage scales on btw) IS HEIGHT (with an equipped O2)
the height scales the damage output.
in SOME cases. (mele trooper on the ground in your space)
well takes a bit of understanding whats going on.
in borderlands when you try to stack on top of another character....or say use a vehicle even without properly mounting it.
what happens is you get 'juggled' aside and thus you are not able to rejump from the non-platform.
i think its to help people from breaking terrain is my impression why the feature has been in game before and reappears again even here in the Pre-sequel.
thus, if you are trying to hop up the idea is to have clearance to get the double jump height from standing flat footed that would be required to have enough vertical clearance to even begin a slam animation.
if you are too cloase and tied up with enemies that cause model collision while you are initially jumping then you will likely get juggled before you can perform the 'boost' for double jump.
if you are airborne and have no model collision with
other models (non terrain)
or terain itself
then pushing crouch intiates a rapid decent move (with O2 mod equipped, with or without O2 in the tank)
with enough distance the rapid decent converts to a buttslam
if you are roughly a characters model height or less while initiatnig the rapid decent it will not have time to convert to a buttslam
if your model collides with another model before converting to a buttslam it will juggle instead.
if you are that close to the ground already then it wont work anyways
HOLDING C
holding C is NOT necessarily what makes buttslame work
BUT in close quarters confusion and without peripheral vision things can get a bit out of hand. then in that case holding C might help because when you juggle with collision you might have just enough room to convert to a rapid decent, and rarely a weak slam
this was my experience with the kragons who like to get all up in your business and certainly some of the taller badass goon models, especially in close quarters with a low enough ceiling where you wont be able to fit your body between not coliding with their model and the ceiling, then you should not in such circumstances attempting to butt slam is ill advised.
there are methods and ways about the butt slam. it adds some welcome depth and variety to your arsenal and resource to your capacity of decision. it has its limitations.
most important is clearance. just keep that in mind.
its not broken, its just something more. its a great placeholder for an elemental like flame.
playing nisha I find its best served as something to use while reloading or buidling my law stacks quickly when entering a sustained multitarget engagement.
You can practice/test this yourself in Concordia: Use the jump pad in front of the Fast Travel Station, then, while over safe ground, try tapping the C key. Then, try holding it again but hold down the button. For the former, you rush to the ground, but you land relatively softly. For the latter method, you land with a satisfying boom.
Musings: Then again, it might also have something to do with the atmosphere (airless environments, for example, might just allow you to tap the crouch). I'll have to retest and get back to you about that.
also there are O2 mods out there which enhance flight control. i am curious to try some of those. just playing a
Holding down crouch and just tapping has different effect. Slam works only when button is held. Just tapping just brings the character down.
As useful slam is bringing the character down without slam is also useful. Sometimes you are just traversing environment and an accidental slam can break some hazardous container.
This works only when Toggle crouch is turned off. When Toggle crouch is turned ON then there is no way to get down without slamming. Both tapping and holding crouch performs slam. I think this is a bug.
