One claptrap or many
I was having a discussion with my friend and we had a disagreement over claptrap I'd like some opinions on. Is the claptrap in 1, 2, and TPS the same claptrap? We often see other claptraps running around but I think the main one we see through the games is the same. Thoughts?

There is a running joke (that may turn not not to be a joke) that the Claptrap in BLPS is actually Saturn before he got a upgrade.

Considering the Claptrap in TPS is a bonafide badass blowing up sh!t left and right AND jumping, while the one in BL2 cant climb stairs, I doubt they are the same.

The idea to my understanding is that Jack prototypes a variety of CL4P-TP's so its likely the one we know and happily hate as our unfortunate companion in 1 and 2 are the very same as each other but not the same in BLPS which is likely another prototype gone right from Jack's work. I'm yet to complete the story but yeah that's what I gather so far.

It's been confirmed on numerous times that it's the same Claptrap in all Borderland's games.

Yep, it is the same claptrap.

some time after the pre-sequal, jack makes claptrap reinstall the claptrap programming (losing his vault hunter badasseryand stair climbing program and reclaiming his door opening prowess) then proceeds to recall all the claptraps then systematicly kill them and either melt them down for spare parts for the loaders or dump them in that frozen wreck clap trap had escaped too.
BL3 may have the return of the clap trap vault hunter

Provided that they actually make BL3. I think for now they'll be hesitant and pull an AC move and make 'side games' instead of a third. Most companies who hit a third game tend to trip and fall on the third release and only a few have picked up at a better place afterwards - example being ACIII being the trip and ACIV being the pick up. But that's all conjecture on my part, really.

Yeah, Claptrap obviously recognizes all the people he runs accross in Borderlands 1 in this game so, although it would be possible to transfer memories between bots, the most likely answer is that he's one and the same.

In The Pre-Sequel, Clappy had a climbing stairs subroutine that was erased at the end of TPS.

Well, being European I unfortunately do not yet know much about him in TPS. I just think that the Claptrap in BL2 seems much more like a guy fantasizing about being an awesome badass, rather than one who actually used to be one.

C'mon it was said a bazillion times. There is only 1 true "Claptrap". The one and only CL4P-TP who met Vault Hunters near the buss, the one that was reprogrammed into space ninja assassin, the one who helped Jack to became a CEO and save the world, and was dumped from an orbit into a planetary pole afterward, the one who joined Vault Hunters fighting against Jack in BL2.

That's why it feels like the same robot.

If you've ever seen the Netflix movie, I Am Mother, then you'll understand the concept.

Can't tell if you are trolling or just necroing but it is the same robot, all claptraps except bl1 ninja / Tps Protagonist / Bl2 companion claptrap are the same claptrap, all the other ones died in tps.

Play the Story DLC. Then you'll see the truth.
